Madonna's 'Don't Tell Me' Brings Accolades To Joe Henry

Madonna’s hit single, “Don’t Tell Me,” from her 2000 album, Music, was among the songs honored as one of the most performed of the year at the 19th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards on Monday (May 20) in Beverly Hills, California. The award meant accolades for acclaimed singer-songwriter Joe Henry, who wrote the song. Henry, who is also Madonna’s brother-in-law, says that he originally had different plans for the song, but is not complaining about how things played out. “Initially I wrote it for the Sopranos and they turned it down because I wasn’t a Sony artist or a big… Read more »

Kelly Osbourne To Record Madonna's 'Papa Don't Preach' – With Incubus

Kelly Osbourne may be Sharon and Ozzy’s daughter, but it seems she’s got a little Madonna in her, too. After successfully mastering the role of television star, Kelly is now trying her hand as a pop music icon. She and the members of Incubus – sans frontman Brandon Boyd – will collaborate to record a cover of Madonna’s 1986 chart-topper “Papa Don’t Preach.” “I didn’t choose the song,” Kelly said Tuesday (April 2). “My mom did and asked me to do it. I’m kind of crapping myself because I don’t think I’m a very good singer.” That should be the… Read more »

Madonna Scales Back Stage Time To Work On New LP

Though Madonna fans may be disappointed to learn the singer has canceled matinee performances of the London theater production “Up for Grabs,” there is a silver lining. The reason she won’t be able to do daytime shows, her rep said, is that she’s spending her days in the studio, working on a follow-up to 2000’s Music. No further information was provided, and there is no word on when the album will surface. Madonna plays an art dealer in “Up for Grabs,” which opens May 23 at London’s Wyndham Theater and runs for 10 weeks.

Madonna’s no beautiful stranger to spy films – she’s acted up a storm as Breathless Mahoney in 1990’s “Dick Tracy” and contributed one song to the 1999 spy spoof “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.” Now she’s going for the real thing – shaken, not stirred – with the title track to the 20th James Bond film, “Die Another Day.” “We are thrilled that Madonna, who is recognized as the world’s most exciting songwriter and performer, has agreed to compose and sing the song for the first James Bond movie of the new millennium,” said the film’s team of… Read more »

The Material Girl attended with a few of her girlfriends, and it was a very low-key, laid-back appearance, a source confirmed for LAUNCH. Madonna was entertained and impressed, staying at the venue for Branch’s whole set. Lucy Woodward and Transmatic opened the show. Madonna Too Nasty For Singapore

Madonna’s Drowned World Tour 2001 concert DVD has been deemed “too explicit” for Singapore and banned from release there, Billboard reports. The Singapore Board Of Film Censors took issue with two scenes in particular-Japanese-inspired animation sequences that depicted a monster fondling and raping an Asian-looking girl. Madonna’s management is reportedly debating whether to release an edited version of the DVD in that country. The Drowned DVD captures the Material Girl in concert in Detroit last August. Meanwhile, other visual images of Madonna are currently receiving accolades back home in the States. The Jean-Baptiste Mondino-directed video for the song “Don’t Tell… Read more »
