Labels Ask Judge To Make Napster Reverse Its Filtering Approach

RIAA lawyers say service should switch to a method in which permission would be sought in advance for every file. Napster has “flagrantly and intentionally” failed to filter out copyrighted songs, music industry lawyers said Tuesday (March 27), asking a judge to force the file-sharing service to switch to a “filter-in” method in which only specifically authorized songs would be available. In a “filter-in” system, Napster would have to start by banning everything, and then allow in songs that labels and artists tell them are approved for sharing – the opposite of the method Napster currently uses, where songs are… Read more »

Bizkit To Write 'Totally Opposite' LP From Starfish, Durst Says

Limp Bizkit will resort to self-inflicted torture this summer to write the “heaviest album you’ve ever heard,” frontman Fred Durst says. “We’re gonna go in, no air-conditioning, 130 degree room, just mad as f , and just go there,” he said. “We need to go there. “We have a lot to say now, and we’re really emotional,” he continued. “The success has allowed us to step back and look at the world.” Durst said Limp Bizkit have worked on some new material during sound checks, but they plan to start largely afresh when they return from their European tour in… Read more »

Records, even though he won’t arrive until January because Interscope won’t let him out of his contract. Warner Bros. Records president Phil Quartararo is in line to run the show… Read more »
