Bon Jovi topped the U.S. album charts for the first time since 1988 on Wednesday, while rock duo the White Stripes scored a personal best with a No. 2 debut for their latest release. Bon Jovi’s “Lost Highway” sold 292,000 copies in the week ended June 24, the rock troupe’s biggest one-week sum since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991. The Island/Mercury Nashville set is Bon Jovi’s third No. 1 album, joining 1988’s “New Jersey” and 1987’s “Slippery When Wet.” Sales were fueled in part by the group’s new country fanbase, wrangled in with the Grammy-winning 2006 hit… Read more »

Recently, Maureen Callahan wrote a piece for the New York Post about Crush Management, the NYC cadre that shepherds the careers of Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, the Academy Is … , Boys Like Girls and Armor for Sleep (or, as Callahan puts it, “basically any band that a 13-year-old girl with a blog and a Hot Topic habit obsesses over”). Aside from providing readers with some genuinely bananas quotes from songwriter/ rock-and-roll vampire Butch Walker about credibility (especially considering this is on his résumé), the article is excellent primarily because it floats the hypothesis that the artists… Read more »

Many acts avoid reading reviews of their albums for fear one sour critic will reduce their noble efforts to rubble. Sometimes, being a fish out of water offers a more comprehensive view of the outside world. For the past two years, the Used’s frontman, Bert McCracken, has been living in Los Angeles, and while he hasn’t exactly been enamored with the city of artifice and entertainment, he has found the environment creatively inspiring. “I’ve had a good look at how people think in comparison to almost the whole rest of the world and it’s so ridiculous, it’s given me tons of song ideas,” the Utah native said. “I don’t even feel like a fish out of water here, I feel… Read more »
