Alternative rock outfit Dashboard Confessional has unveiled plans for a fall tour, beginning Aug. 30 in Pittsburgh and wrapping Oct. 7 in St. Paul, Minn. The Chris Carrabba-led band will be touring in support of its upcoming Vagrant album, “A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar,” due Aug. 12. Thirty-eight years after his dad went electric, Jakob Dylan and his Wallflowers are going acoustic. Lots of artists recovering from severe medical ailments like to take it slow and easy. Not Linkin Park, who have numerous projects and a major tour lined up for the summer. Singer Chester Bennington was admitted to the hospital on May 30 for intense back and stomach pains and remained there for nine days. Doctors told him not to sing until at least this past Tuesday. Veteran modern rock act R.E.M. has made a few changes in its fall North American tour. The group, which kicked off its first world tour in four years June 21 in Utrecht, Holland, has added two dates and altered city and/or venue details for a handful of others on the North American leg of the outing, which will now get underway Aug. 29 in Vancouver. R.E.M. have set an October 28th release date for their second compilation, In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003. The collection will feature two new tracks, “Bad Day” and “Animal.” The former will also be released as the album’s first single; the band shot a video for the track last month in Vancouver. The compilation will be released on the heels of the first leg of R.E.M.’s world tour, which launched last Saturday in Holland. Alt-metal act Alien Ant Farm is preparing to return to touring for the first time since a bus accident left lead singer Dryden Mitchell with serious spinal injuries more than a year ago. The North American run will kick off July 5 in Las Vegas and close Aug. 3 in Houston. A European tour with stops at England’s Reading and Leeds festivals will follow. Linkin Park has announced rescheduled dates from this spring’s Projekt Revolution tour. The band missed the opening date of the tour in Rochester, New York, and a few others dates later, due to singer Chester Bennington’s throat infection. The band will play Rochester on July 22 at the Blue Cross Arena with Cold, Jurassic 5 and Mudvayne; Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 29 with Cold and Mudvayne; and Wichita, Kansas July 30 with Cold and possibly Mudvayne. This summer Seattle rockers Queensryche return with the release of Tribe, the band’s first studio album on Sanctuary Records. Tribe, which will be released on July 22, 2003, follows Queensryche’s Sanctuary debut, Live Evolution, a career-spanning live collection, released in 2001. Reel Big Fish and their friend and drummer for the past 4 years, Carlos De La Garza, have parted ways. The split is an amicable one as De La Garza has opted to pursue other things and spend more time with his wife and family.
