System Of A Down upstage headliners – Review

Featuring two of the day’s most popular heavy rock acts – the masked Midwest horror-meisters Slipknot and the politically-driven Southland quartet System Of A Down – the nationwide Pledge of Allegiance tour features a couple bands whose recordings and performances are marked by uncompromising intensity. However, their musical styles and their levels of talent, as seen at the near-full Forum, share few resemblances. After a typically explosive set by German fire-tamers Rammstein, as well as opening turns by young groups Mudvayne and No One, System played their first L.A. show in two years and the first since the release earlier… Read more »

Where's The Snap & Crackle In Pop Culture?

This is a difficult transition for the entertainment community. There is a growing desire, if not need, to return to some form of business as usual, yet an uncertainty as to whether this is a viable option. Parties and premieres are being resurrected, but companies are doing so furtively, like children worried about parental admonition. Stars are returning to the business of hyping their movies, albeit sheepishly. The TV trade wants its Emmys, yet seems bent on making the ceremony at once non-competitive and non-ceremonial. Dealmakers who have been struggling with the rules of the “new civility” are starting to… Read more »

Where To Get Information, Where You Can Help

As Americans young and old struggle to understand the horror of last week’s unprecedented terrorist attacks on U.S. soil, many have also been asking one question: What can I do to help? Across the country, students of all ages – from second graders to those in college – are raising relief money through bake sales and car washes. Those who are old enough are also giving blood and volunteering with the Red Cross and other charities. So many people have donated supplies and food to rescue workers in New York and Washington, D.C., that no more of those items are… Read more »

Self confessed HUGE Star Wars fans Wheatus don’t like the title of the next Star Wars movie “Attack of the Clones”. Speaking with entaine.com’s Heiko Schoenborn Brendon Brown says “I like The Phantom Menace, I don’t like Attack of the Clones. It makes it sound like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. Like a B grade horror movie. It’s probably going to be a great story and great effects. All the Storm Troopers are clones underneath their helmets. The Emperor in The Phantom Menace used robots but they weren’t reliable, so he had to experiment with Clones. That’s where the Clone… Read more »

Warped Tour organizers wouldn’t discuss the flap’s details and only confirmed that both parties involved were immediately asked to leave the tour. “Personal issues were brought into the tour, and we felt they weren’t conducive to the Warped environment and… Read more »

Britney Is That Innocent – In The Movies, At Least

Britney Spears plays “an innocent girl with a lot of aspirations” in her big-screen debut, according to one of her “What Are Friends For” co-stars. The film, due out early next year, finds Spears’ character, Lucy, on a cross-country adventure seeking musical fame, said Justin Long, who plays her best friend from high school. “It’s like a road trip buddy movie for girls,” said Long, who appeared in “Galaxy Quest” but is best known as Warren Cheswick on the NBC comedy “Ed.” “[Britney] plays a very wide-eyed girl. She’s a great actress. People are going to be surprised.” So how… Read more »
