Weezer Taps Cold For September Shows

Cold is one fortunate band. Not only is Interscope about to work the fourth single from its album (regardless of moderate – yet climbing – album sales and radio airplay), but the Florida-bred hard rockers have landed yet another key opening slot. Weezer has asked the band to open its upcoming shows from Sept. 6 through Sept. 29 (the full itinerary will be unveiled shortly). Cold’s been on the road non-stop since the September 2000 release of its second album, 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage. The band previously opened for Limp Bizkit, Staind, Godsmack, and 3 Doors Down. Green Day Having The Time Of Its Life

Try as they might to display a more mature side as songwriters and lyricists, the members of Green Day – a third, fourth or maybe even fifth-generation punk band – are still working the same schtick that powered them to rock supremacy in the mid-1990s. It’s snotty and obnoxious, a blur of three- and four-chord rockers strung together in a manner that puts exclamation points after every barre chord and chorus. But when it’s working, Green Day is far and away the head of the class. Green Day delivered an involving, career-spanning show that included five tunes from the new… Read more »

One of the band’s publicists declined to elaborate on what other addictions Hetfield is… Read more »

Madonna's Record Label Lays Off Staffers

While Madonna prepares to bring her “Drowned World Tour” to North America, her record label has reportedly jettisoned a half-dozen staffers. The label, whose top acts include Canadian pop singer Alanis Morissette and hard rock band the Deftones, blamed deteriorating market conditions, the trade paper said. Label president Bill Bennett, who had been with Maverick for only two years, will not be replaced, Daily Variety said. It was not clear how many people are employed at Maverick. Drowning Pool Making A Big Splash At Ozzfest

As their debut album, Sinner, screams up the Billboard albums chart and its first single, “Bodies,” continues on a path toward becoming hard rock’s summer anthem, Drowning Pool seem to have a lock on the title of Ozzfest’s breakout band. Such high expectations, however, haven’t made the Dallas quartet forget what landed it a slot on the tour in the first place. “It’s crazy. It’s hard from my perspective to explain [the position we’re in] because I’m in it,” singer Dave Williams said. “We’re just four jackasses from Texas who love to play music. We love doing what we do… Read more »
