A guitar owned and played by the late Jimi Hendrix is expected to reach up to $246,000 at auction Thursday. Guitar Owners Win Suit Vs. Hendrix Estate


Owners of a 1967 Fender Stratocaster, which they claim once belonged to Jimi Hendrix, have won a suit against the legendary musician’s estate for interfering with a sale of the guitar. A jury awarded Rock Stars Guitars $131,000 Friday, finding that Hendrix’s estate hurt the company’s efforts to auction the guitar by questioning its authenticity. Lynyrd Guitarist Can Return to Touring


Seven weeks after heart bypass surgery, doctors cleared Lynyrd Skynyrd founding lead guitarist Gary Rossington to return to touring with the southern rock band starting in June. Rossington, 51, underwent the quintuple bypass surgery Feb. 25 at an Atlanta-area hospital. Band spokesman Lathum Nelson said Thursday in Los Angeles that the cardiologist gave Rossington the green light to return to stage June 13 in Karlsruhe, Germany. “Since his surgery, Gary has done well. After nine months of recording with at least five different guitar players, Limp Bizkit still aren’t finished with their new album. Fred Durst has set aside the 19 tracks already recorded and is starting fresh with new guitarist Mike Smith, formerly of Snot. “The chemistry with our new guitar player, Mike, is so dope that we are spending the next couple weeks writing a new album!” Durst wrote on Limp Bizkit’s Web site Wednesday. Used Guitarist Arrested After Show, Claims Mistreatment


Quinn Allman, guitarist for the Used, was arrested for opposing a police officer on Tuesday after a show in Jacksonville, Florida, and was imprisoned for almost 24 hours. Allman was busted while trying to prevent Lt. J.T. Crotty from arresting fan Crystal Joanne Gordon, who was loitering in the venue’s parking lot after the show. “I was signing autographs, and this cop had his searchlights shined on everybody, and he says, ‘You have to leave the premises right now. After a nationwide talent search failed to yield a replacement for guitarist Wes Borland, Limp Bizkit has chosen former Snot axeman Mike Smith as his successor. A fast-moving fire – ignited by an indoor pyrotechnics display during a concert – killed at least 54 people late Thursday at a Providence, Rhode Island-area nightclub, officials said. 150 Entwistle Guitars Will Be Auctioned


More than 150 guitars belonging to The Who’s John Entwistle, who died last year, will be auctioned May 13 in London. Entwistle’s favorite, a pink Fender Precision Bass named “Frankenstein” because he patched it together from the remains of five smashed basses, is expected to sell for $8,000 to $11,200, Sotheby’s auction house said this week. Guitars Designed for Charity Auction


Giant guitars designed by Yoko Ono, Keith Richards and Drew Carey took center stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame charity auction. Ten-foot-tall replicas of Fender Stratocaster guitars had spent the summer on display throughout the city. A total of 90 guitars fetched about $800,000 Saturday night at an auction to benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, organizers said.
