Payable on Death are in the midst of a resurrection. There’s no question that P.O.D. sound different without original guitarist Marcos Curiel. His replacement, Jason Truby, plays a more rigid and precise style of guitar, informed by bands like Metallica and Helmet, while Curiel’s technique was loose and sweeping, influenced by Carlos Santana as much as by Korn. The guitarist with modern rock band Hoobastank is in serious but stable condition following surgery for a head injury sustained during a motorbike accident earlier this week in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. Metallica’s latest album, St. Anger, is a straightforward effort, which drummer Lars Ulrich compares to a raw garage-band-like recording. A guitar owned and played by the late Jimi Hendrix has remained unsold at auction after failing to reach its reserve price, a spokesman for auctioneers Cooper Owen said on Thursday. The 1965 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster was billed as the highlight of a “Rock Legend” sale, with the auctioneers hoping to achieve a sale price of up to 150,000 pounds.
