Paul McCartney leads the way so far this year on making money from concerts, but Green Day and Blink-182 win for the number of people who show up. The concert industry magazine Pollstar reports McCartney is at the top of the mid-year list of highest-grossing tours. He brought in $52.8 Million. Concert grosses for the first half of the year were up 17 percent, but so were ticket prices – the average cost of a ticket for top tours was about $51, compared to $47 last year, according to an industry report. Not only are they pirating tunes on the Internet rather than paying upwards of $20 for a compact disc, they are also increasingly reluctant to fork out for costly concert tickets. Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone died of an apparent drug overdose in Hollywood on Wednesday (June 5). When the group was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in March, some of modern rock’s biggest stars tipped their hats to the legendary band and Ramone himself.
