Foster Addresses Berklee Graduates


Record producer David Foster told the 662 graduates at Berklee College of Music to expand their horizons while pursuing their artistic passions. “Be open to things other than music,” said Foster, who has won 14 Grammy awards. “Remember the first words you learned in grade school: Look and listen. Learn as much as you can about everything. Dionne Warwick Faces Pot Charge


Singer Dionne Warwick was arrested Sunday when baggage screeners at Miami International Airport said they found 11 suspected marijuana cigarettes inside her lipstick container. Warwick, 61, of Miami Beach, was charged with possession of less than 5 grams of marijuana. She signed an affidavit promising to appear in court and was released. Warwick was scheduled to fly to Los Angeles when screeners at Concourse D noticed a suspicious item in her carry-on bag at about 7:30 a.m. She missed the flight. Dixie Chicks, Sony Close to Deal


After 10 months of legal wrangling, the Dixie Chicks are expected to sign a new deal soon with Sony Music Entertainment, according to Billboard magazine. Sony has been home for the Texas trio for the past five years, but recent rumors had the Chicks heading to Capitol Records. Last July, the group’s attorneys served Sony with notice that its contract was terminated “by reason of Sony’s material misconduct and material breaches.” The Chicks still owed five albums, so Sony responded with a lawsuit to keep the group from leaving. TLC won’t replace Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died last week in a car crash in Honduras. Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Grammy-winning R&B trio will release its fourth album and plans to continue performing, but she and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins won’t add a new member. “As for Lisa being replaced – never,” Thomas said. “You can’t replace a TLC girl. TLC Singer Killed in Car Crash


Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the effervescent, sometimes volatile rapping member of the Grammy-winning trio TLC, was killed in a car crash in Honduras, her record company said early Friday. Lopes, who would have turned 31 next month, was in the Central American nation for a vacation, Arista Records’ senior vice president of publicity Laura Swanson told The Associated Press. Warner Music Group Acquires 50% Interest in Deston Songs


Warner Music Group (WMG) announced today that it has acquired, from edel music AG, a 50% interest in music publisher Deston Songs LLC. Deston Songs, founded in 2000 by world-renowned songwriter/producer Desmond Child and music industry veterans Winston Simone and David Simone, has quickly established itself as one of the industry’s leading independent music publishers.
