The Police are set to reform at next month’s Grammy Awards, a number of internet news sites are reporting. The comeback, which is still unconfirmed, was initially reported by music site Side Line, and reveals the band plan to celebrate their 30 year anniversary with a big tour, reportedly “around 80 live dates”. Los Angeles – Pop star Britney Spears won the first Grammy Award of her brief but colorful career on Sunday, taking the prize in the best dance recording category. In true punk rock fashion, Green Day tested the censors at the Grammy Awards on Sunday – and the censors were ready. The Bay Area rockers, on a career high with their “American Idiot” album, added a shot of rock ‘n’ roll adrenaline by performing the title cut. The disc won the Grammy for best rock album. The song includes a prominent obscenity in one of the lyrics, but the censors were plainly prepared and neatly excised the word. Since few people actually care about the winners of the Grammy Awards, the producers of the show always stack the program with top-notch performers to keep things interesting. Few people can remember who won the top award last year, but those images of Prince grinding with Beyonce during last year’s show opener will go down as one of the greatest musical moments in television history. Even though Led Zeppelin are one of the best-selling rock bands in history (the technically untitled Led Zeppelin IV is among the handful of records that have sold more than 20 million copies in the U.S.), the critics have never really liked ’em.
