Korn Promise To Be 'Even More Brutal And Awesome' On Tour

Even without a name, Korn’s upcoming tour looks to be a wicked, three-tiered assault on the senses, complete with crowd participation, a revolving stage and a mic stand with breasts. The Tour With No Name is scheduled to begin June 20 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and run through 26 gigs before wrapping up July 29 in Denver. For concertgoers already familiar with Korn’s new album, Untouchables, released Tuesday, they can expect the songs’ already vicious rumblings to become even more so. “These songs are just awesome,” singer Jonathan Davis said none too modestly, “and they’re even better live. The album’s great,… Read more »

Teen Singer-Guitarist Avril Lavigne Celebrates Top 10 Debut With L.A. Show

When was the last time this happened: a breakthrough artist spends the night its album debuted in the top 10 on The Billboard 200 chart playing the opening slot at a tiny Sunset Strip club instead of headlining its own show – or partying like a rock star elsewhere in town? How about Wednesday (June 12) night, when current it-girl Avril Lavigne, who’s all of 17 years old, played an unexpectedly aggressive early set at the Viper Room in Hollywood. Though Lavigne was there, in theory, to warm the mostly-music-industry-crowd up for the hitless bands Lo Cal AM and Plain… Read more »

Between Toilet Pranks, IMX Produce Music For Solange, Whitney, Mya

The guys in IMX promise that their Scream 2 Tour this summer with B2K and headliner Bow Wow is going to offer just as much excitement as one of those Hollywood blockbusters that drop around this time of year. However, the trio also revealed last month that some of the most action-packed and suspense-filled moments are going to take place behind the scenes at the concerts: A lot of the guys are practical jokesters and it’s going to come down to who gets who first. “They never got me,” IMX’s Romeo bragged. “[B2K’s] Lil’ Fizz is my brother, we’ll think… Read more »

David Lee Roth Shakes It In Spandex, Sammy Hagar Bashes Eddie At Tour Debut – Review

The pervading feeling between dueling former Van Halen frontmen David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar may never be love, but fans showed a lot of it Wednesday at Blossom Music Center. Vintage Van Halen T-shirts peppered the fiery crowd. Fortysomething women fashioned the Van Halen symbol with their hands as they shook their shoulders to songs such as “5150” and “Panama.” A group of teenage boys wrote with marker “f– Eddie” on their arms, referring, of course, to VH guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The admiration was mutual between the crowd and Roth and Hagar. Mop-haired Hagar opened the show at… Read more »

Corgan Helps Bring Back Berlin

“I’m a pervert, I like watching,” Terri Nunn says, laughing, succinctly explaining Voyeur, the title of Berlin’s first album of new material in sixteen years. “There’s a song that was a bonus track on the live record [Berlin Live: Sacred and Profane] called ‘X Girl’ that had a line, “I’m the one standing on the sidelines/I’m the voyeur on your side,’ and that line really stuck with me.” With that, Nunn and Berlin are back, continuing what they started twenty years ago with the breakout singles “Sex (I’m A…)” and “Metro,” from the gold-selling debut EP Pleasure Victim. They continued… Read more »

Eminem Raps Way to Top of British Charts

Controversial pop artist Eminem rapped his way to No. 1 in Britain’s pop charts Sunday, knocking manufactured group Liberty X off the top spot after just one week. The American rapper’s single “Without Me” beat off stiff competition from the likes of boy band Westlife to go straight in at No. 1, according to figures from the Official UK Charts Company. Liberty X, comprising finalists from the hit show “Popstars” and once dubbed “flopstars” by the British press, fell to No. 2 with “Just a Little.” Liverpudlian all-girl group Atomic Kitten proved no match for Eminem, entering the chart at… Read more »

Britney Avoids Vice, Justin Talk, Anything New At Sin City Tour Opener – Review

In the city of sin, Britney Spears behaved. There was no dissing of Justin Timberlake during the opening night of the second leg of the Dream Within a Dream Tour. No cigarette smoking. No… whatever vice the rumor mills have her doing this week. Things may have changed in Britney’s well-chronicled life since the last time we saw her onstage – and that’s only if you believe the gossip – but there were no signs of it Friday at Mandalay Bay. The 20-year-old headliner was the same pop princess she was at 19. Nearly every part of Spears’ 90-minute show… Read more »

Will Smith Stages Biggest Intergalactic Space Concert Of All Time

Rest assured, Will Smith will rid the world of aliens again, but first, he’ll perform for them. While the first single from the “Men in Black 2” soundtrack, “Black Suits Comin’ (Nod Ya Head),” is gaining popularity, Smith deliberately steered clear of the tried-and-true methods of creating a summer hit – heavy samples and big-name cameos – so as not to oversell the song, a Sony Pictures publicist said. But you know Smith, he can’t keep that simplicity up for long. Especially when there’s a video to be shot. The clip, directed by Francis Lawrence, features Smith, clad in the… Read more »

Ozzy's Ratings Low In Germany As P.O.D., Lenny Kravitz Thrill Festival – Review

You know you’re a long way from home when Groove Armada and Faithless play for wilder crowds than the godfather of heavy metal. “I can’t f-ing hear you!” is Ozzy Osbourne’s standard concert rallying cry, but it took on a new urgency Friday night at the kickoff of the three-day Rock Im Park festival in Nuremberg. As the 53-year-old showman peered out at the half-full Frankenstadion, his famous baffled expression – mouth agape, black-lined eyes open wide, arms extended as though desperately soliciting a hug – looked a bit more confounded than usual. Of course the metal madman delivered, leading… Read more »
