Sum 41 Release Sensitive 'Pieces'

Throughout their last two albums, Sum 41 have been almost synonymous with either revved-up pop-punk or over-the-top heavy metal. That may all change thanks to their new single, “Pieces.” The Goons, as their fans are affectionately referred, had better brace themselves for associations with things more on the sensitive side of the spectrum, like warm, fuzzy cardigans and online journals. Although it retains the band’s customary big guitars, the melody and subject matter are a lot gentler than signature songs “Over My Head (Better Off Dead),” “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep.” “We’ve had slow songs before, but we’ve never… Read more »

My Chemical Romance: Get A Band And Get A Life

For those involved in the indie punk and emo scenes, My Chemical Romance shouldn’t be an unfamiliar name. While the group have only been around for two years, they’ve received much attention for their debut album I Brought You My Bullets in 2002. They’ve toured extensively across North America and Europe with bands such as The Used and Taking Back Sunday, creating a major buzz for themselves. Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, the band’s new major-label debut on Arista/Warner is just as dark, yet positively uplifting, and is getting a lot of play in stereos of emotionally-distraught teens, especially across… Read more »

Eminem Rubs Out Shania On Way To The Top

It’s finally happened. After putting up with Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain, someone representing the kids has made it to the top. After a full seven days, Em took over the top spot selling 82,300 CDs, blowing away Twain, who was #1 last week. The controversial rapper has gone more than platinum in both Canada and the U.S..in just under two weeks, which isn’t much of a surprise as he is one of the most… Read more »

Paris Hilton Hooks Up With Lil Jon, Shares Her Horsemeat Gross-Out

New York – Paris Hilton has been trying to hold down a job. She flitted from city to city on her “Simple Life”-sponsored tour of the East Coast for the last four weeks, taking on a new internship wherever her Greyhound bus stopped. The trip provided the premise for the FOX show’s forthcoming third season, “Simple Life 3: Interns,” but also gave the hotel heiress an appreciation for a healthy work ethic. Now that she’s back home, all she wants to do is get back to work. “I need to be in the studio, like, tomorrow,” Hilton said Sunday night… Read more »

Destiny's Child 'Fulfilled' by New Album

Los Angeles – After a three-year hiatus, Destiny’s Child is picking up where it left off: at the top. “Lose My Breath,” the first single from the R&B trio’s hotly anticipated album “Destiny Fulfilled,” quickly marched its way to No. 3 on The Billboard Hot 100. Now industry observers are handicapping how the group’s sales destiny will be fulfilled following the release of its first album since 2001’s “Survivor.” The Sony Urban Music/Columbia album debuted this week at No. 19 on the Billboard 200, based on only three days of sales in the week ended Nov. 14. Sum 41 Video Skit Deemed Unsuitable For Children

While Sum 41 were on tour with Good Charlotte last week, the show made the local news. The report, however, could have been a little more positive. Under the banner “Concert Concerns,” a segment ran on the local news in New Orleans that slammed Sum 41 for the violence in the short film the band plays before their set. The clip shows drummer Stevo, decked out in the dorkiest basketball uniform he could find – complete with knee-high socks, wristbands, short-shorts and sports goggles – challenging a demurely dressed bassist Cone to a game of hoops. Cone, of course, righteously… Read more »

Avril Lavigne Gives Squishy SpongeBob Song A Harder Edge

Before Avril Lavigne could cover the theme to “SpongeBob SquarePants” for the pineapple-dweller’s upcoming movie soundtrack, some changes had to be made. After all, a girl known for wearing combat boots, spiked jewelry and clothing emblazoned with skulls and crossbones couldn’t sing lyrics as silly as “absorbent and yellow and porous is he” with the same sing-songy bounce as the original. “I made the song a little more edgy,” Lavigne said. “It’s kind of like the rock version of [the original]. There are a lot of loud guitars, and we picked the tempo up a little and sang it with… Read more »
