A jury decided Thursday that Michael Jackson owes a concert promoter $5.3 million for backing out of two concerts planned to celebrate the millennium on New Year’s Eve 1999. The verdict came in a $21 million breach-of-contract lawsuit filed against the singer by German concert organizer Marcel Avram. Jackson’s attorneys said it was Avram who canceled the shows over concerns they would not be profitable. The jury deliberated for nearly two weeks. Sonic Youth will take their sixteenth album, Murray Street, out on a twenty-two-date tour, starting August 1st in Dallas. The tour will be the group’s second as a five-piece, as the group brought producer Jim O’Rourke onboard while promoting their last studio record, 2000’s NYC Ghosts and Flowers. The dates will run through a September 1st appearance at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle and include a free concert at Central Park in the band’s hometown of New York City. British pop trio BBMak have a six-string surprise in store for their fans, as their second album promises to be more of a guitar-driven affair. Five days after being electrocuted onstage in Bangkok, Thailand and rushed to a hospital, Calling guitarist Aaron Kamin returned to his spot aside his fellow band members for a gig in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday (April 9). Kamin is in “great spirits and doing fine,” a band spokesperson said. Ernest Hemingway once described courage as “grace under pressure.” Rush drummer Neil Peart liked the phrase so much that he used it as the title of the band’s 1984 album. Now, having experienced devastating family tragedy and a subsequent rebirth, Peart has become the living definition of courage. In 1997, the drummer’s 19-year-old daughter died in a car accident.
