Timothy White, Billboard editor in chief since 1991, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack June 27, just as the magazine was going to press. He was 50. Timothy collapsed in an elevator in the Billboard offices at 770 Broadway in New York and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he succumbed. Timothy is survived by his wife Judy Garlan, his 10-year-old twins Christopher and Alexander, and seven siblings. The two surviving members of The Who decided Friday to resume their scheduled three-month U.S. tour despite the sudden death of bassist John Entwistle, their bandmate of nearly four decades. “The band decided to recommence the tour beginning at the Hollywood Bowl (a Monday night show),” according to a message posted on guitarist Pete Townshend’s Web site. The first show will serve as “a tribute to John Entwistle,” the band said in a separate statement. One of rock’s current hottest songs, “Hero,” appears on the soundtrack to one of the hottest movies around, Spider-Man. The soundtrack, which debuted at Number Four on the Billboard 200, includes the hit featuring Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, and Saliva frontman Josey Scott. Thousands of fans and friends gathered at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, Thursday morning to say good-bye to flamboyant TLC singer/rapper Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Close to 10,000 mourners – including Lopes’ former TLC-mates Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas – made the trip to the Atlanta suburb for Thursday’s (May 2) funeral service for Lopes, who was killed in a car accident in Honduras last week at the age of 30. TLC won’t replace Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died last week in a car crash in Honduras. The parents of the boy who drowned at Tommy Lee’s home last summer are suing the rocker for wrongful death and negligence. Actress Ursula Karven and television producer James Veres filed a lawsuit on February 15 in Los Angeles Superior Court accusing Lee of failing to provide proper supervision of their 4-year-old son, Daniel, who died at Lee’s Malibu mansion on June 16. The lawsuit claims Daniel, who had no swimming experience, and other children were left unsupervised in a swimming pool at Lee’s home. For the first time in almost four years, one of Australia’s most successful rock bands, INXS, is playing a few shows in North America.
