Slow Intro To Napster Tune-Out


While Napster began to filter out music files late Sunday night, as of Monday, many Metallica tracks and almost all of Dr. Dre’s songs were still available. Napster is working around the clock to refine the system, a spokesperson said. Napster said in court Friday that it would begin to filter out 1 million music files, beginning with Metallica and Dr. Dre songs. Dr. Dre. and Metallica filed separate copyright-infringement suits against Napster last year. The cases have been consolidated under the Recording Industry Association of America’s case. Thyret To Resign As WB Records Chairman


Russ Thyret is expected to resign as chairman of Warner Bros. Records next month, making it the first hit in the anticipated shakeup at the music group. The departure of the 30-year Warner Music veteran has been grist for the rumor mill since last summer. The writing on the wall got clearer when it was leaked that Interscope Records president Tom Whalley had been hired as chairman of Warner Bros. Pop veterans Steely Dan had a surprising run Wednesday night at the 43rd annual Grammy Awards, taking home three awards for “Two Against Nature” and the single “Cousin Dupree.” Steely Dan’s first album of new material in two decades earned album of the year trophy, besting Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” and albums by Paul Simon, Radiohead and Beck. New Albums On The Horizon For Spears, 'N Sync


Pop superstar Britney Spears has arrived in Stockholm to begin recording her third Jive album with Max Martin’s new production company Maratone, according to Billboard Magazine. Calls to Jive seeking further details on the sessions went unreturned at press time. Martin produced Spears’ most recent album “Oops! … I Did It Again,” which is No. 37 on The Billboard 200 in its 38th week on the chart. Papa Roach Planning To 'Raid The Nation'


Alt-metal act Papa Roach will hit the road in March on what the band has dubbed the Raid The Nation tour. Supporting will be Orgy and Alien Ant Farm, the later being the first signing to Papa Roach’s New Noize imprint. The tour will kick off March 17 in New Orleans. Papa Roach, which also has plans to join the mainstage line-up of this year’s Ozzfest, is nominated for a best new artist Grammy. Springsteen Shows Set For TV Broadcast


Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have appeared at a lot of venues in their decades performing together – but this spring will see the Boss and his posse bringing their live show to a venue they’ve never visited before: television. Aaron’s party is coming to the WB, and the guest list includes none other than ’60s teen idol Frankie Avalon.
