Hoobastank is finishing up dates with 311 on Wednesday (April 10) in Kansas City. The band is scheduled join Incubus on the Honda Civic tour on Thursday (April 11) in Portland, Oregon. Music fans eagerly anticipating the return of the pioneering Lollapalooza tour will have to wait at least another year. After declaring in November that the mobile festival would end its four-year hiatus in 2002, organizers have delayed its return until next summer. “Having gotten a late start, we felt it would be smart to start building now for summer 2003,” Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell said in a statement. “It will afford us a chance to get the headliner we really want.” The right lineup has always been important to Lollapalooza, which was planning to come back this year in part… Read more »

The Dave Matthews Band hit the third city of its spring tour Sunday, settling into the sold-out FleetCenter for the front half of the run’s first two-night stand. But despite big-screen video action, the pacing and atmosphere onstage seemed more barroom than arena. The group took its time between songs and frontman Matthews asked fans, “Are you enjoying yourselves?” with the laconic drawl of his Virginia club days. For his new album, Heathen, David Bowie has gotten a little “Modern Love” from the likes of Dave Grohl, Moby and Air. The Foo Fighters frontman contributes a guitar line to a track off Bowie’s latest LP, due June 11, according to Bowie’s publicist. For his next musical offering, Steven Tyler will be singing about slinging. Tyler and his Aerosmith bandmates are contributing their version of the “Theme From Spider-Man” (“Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can…”) to the soundtrack for the live-action feature, according to a Columbia Records spokesperson. The LP, composed of tracks exclusive to the soundtrack as well as previously released album cuts, is set for release April 30. The group shot two conceptual videos late last month in Toronto with director Noble Jones, who has previously worked with Roland Gift and Default. R.E.M.’s Peter Buck was cleared of all charges alleging he behaved badly on a trans-Atlantic flight last April. An Isleworth Crown Court in London found the guitarist not guilty Friday (April 5) of assault, being drunk on an aircraft and damaging airline dishes, plates and other meal-service items, according to a court spokesperson. Buck waited with wife Stephanie and bandmates Michael Stipe and Mike Mills for the jury to render its verdict, which came after a five-and-a-half-hour deliberation.
