The 22-year-old pop star watched his team, Nick Carter Racing, win the first race of this year’s American Power Boat Association Offshore Tour on Sunday. Michael Greene has resigned as the head of the organization that hands out the music industry’s most prestigious award, the Grammys, following an emergency board of trustees vote to remove him from office. Greene resigned Saturday night at an emergency meeting attended by more than three dozen trustees of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Greene, 52, had three years remaining on his contract and will receive a severance package of $8 million, much of which will be covered by insurance and includes his bonus from the CBS Grammy contract. Online music service Liquid Audio Inc. on Monday will launch its entry into the growing online subscription music market, focusing on a niche largely ignored in the new generation of digital downloads: Christian music. Redwood City, California-based Liquid Audio’s service, “Burn It First,” is unique in that it will launch with only one type of music, Christian songs from EMI Group’s catalog, under a deal the two companies signed last year. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the effervescent, sometimes volatile rapping member of the Grammy-winning trio TLC, was killed in a car crash in Honduras, her record company said early Friday. Lopes, who would have turned 31 next month, was in the Central American nation for a vacation, Arista Records’ senior vice president of publicity Laura Swanson told The Associated Press.
