Side Project From Modest Mouse Singer Is Typically Twisted

Sometimes the occasional beer interrupts a recording session. Other times, all that recording just gets in the way of a good party. The sessions for Sharpen Your Teeth (May 21), the debut from Modest Mouse singer Isaac Brock’s Ugly Casanova side project, had some of the former and way too much of the latter. Recording the atmospheric album “involved a lot of beers, some recording, then some beers and more recording, if we got to it,” said Brock, 26. “It was largely a hangout with recording involved.” But who is Ugly Casanova? Well, if you believe the elaborate story cooked… Read more »

Eminem Says 'Without Me' Is Not Like Rest Of Album

Eminem insists that his new album, The Eminem Show, due out June 4 on Interscope/Aftermath/Shady Records, is not like his previous efforts, despite the style of the album’s first single, “Without Me.” The single is currently Number 43 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The artist, who appeared on Saturday Night Live on Saturday (May 11), recently spoke to LAUNCH about the song that disses Vice President Dick Cheney, Limp Bizkit, and Moby. “The first single is no indication whatsoever how the record is going to sound. New Creed Video Looks Like Salvador Dali Meets 'Star Wars'

Don’t blame the surreal imagery in Creed’s upcoming “One Last Breath” video on the painkillers Scott Stapp is taking for his injured neck and back. The singer drafted the bizarre treatment for the clip long before his car accident last month. And when he explained his ideas to director David Meyers, the two had a meeting of the minds. “We found out that we both have a love and affection for [surreal painter Salvador] Dali that we didn’t know we shared,” Stapp said. “I wrote my treatment for the video and sent it to Dave, and then he added his… Read more »

Usher Takes Audience Member To Bed At Seattle Tour Opener

“Let me take you to a place nice and quiet,” Usher sang on “Nice and Slow” halfway through an hour-and-a-half headlining set at Key Arena Wednesday night. “Nice” was all taken care of – and “nasty” got equal time, with Usher playing the roles of both sweet lover and triple-X seducer – but the Key was the furthest thing from quiet. The screams of thousands of lust-crazed female fans surged at every hip thrust and low croon, shaking the arena’s foundations in a way even last year’s 6.8 magnitude quake couldn’t touch. Boasting more outfit changes than Cher, the R&B… Read more »

Breeders Shout Out Tater Holler, Truck-Stop Knives, Beer Class On New LP

Considering their last album was released in 1993, you’d think the Breeders could have come up with an album title in that time. Instead, they named their new release Title TK, which in journalism jargon means “title to come” – used when information is still forthcoming. As coolly detached as she is, frontwoman Kim Deal wasn’t being a slacker. This title was conceived even before this album, due May 21, was. “I always thought Title TK sounded cool. Even when Last Splash didn’t have a name, I thought I’d call it Title TK, but I didn’t use it then. And… Read more »
