Vertical Horizon Album Pushed Back Until 2003

The release date for Vertical Horizon’s second RCA Records release, titled Go, has been pushed back until 2003. “The band is still recording,” the spokesperson says. “They are putting on the final touches.” The album, which is the follow-up to the band’s hit 1999 RCA debut, Everything You Want, was last anticipated for release in late September or early October. The effort will be the first by the group since it arrived in the spotlight with the million-selling Everything You Want. And with such newfound stature often comes the added pressure to deliver the right album. Vertical Horizon frontman Matt… Read more »

Never Mind Britney, Aerosmith Back on the Road

After dismaying some fans by performing with pop princess Britney Spears last year, veteran rock band Aerosmith is hitting the road this week with some more appropriate musical stars in tow. The Boston-based combo, famed for a 30-year string of hits including “Dream On” and “Love in an Elevator,” will begin a three-month tour on Tuesday in New Jersey. Its support acts include rap trio Run-D.M.C., whose 1986 cover version of “Walk This Way” reinvigorated Aerosmith’s career, and Kid Rock, who inducted the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry said… Read more »

Springsteen Rises to Top of U.S. Charts

Bruce Springsteen grabbed the top of the U.S. pop charts Wednesday with the debut of his somber, Sept. 11-influenced album, “The Rising,” the first all-new recording with his E Street Band since 1984. The critically hailed LP sold about 525,000 copies in its first week in stores, Springsteen’s best album debut in at least a decade, his publicists said as the veteran rocker and his band prepared to launch a world tour at the Continental Airlines Arena in his native New Jersey. Springsteen’s publicity firm, Shore Fire Media, said “The Rising,” released July 30, also was expected to open at… Read more »

Trouble for the Tour Biz

The concert business is thanking Paul McCartney for a big first half in 2002. But don’t be fooled: A closer look shows that attendance is actually down, and the increase in revenue is due solely to a hike in ticket prices, which have jumped by about four dollars. Rock concerts in 2002 have split into two separate markets: nostalgia fests for baby boomers willing to pay as much as $100 a ticket, and tours by current bands whose younger fans usually aren’t expected to pony up more than $30. The result? More money spent on fewer tickets. According to concert-industry… Read more »

Lifehouse Give New Single, Video A 'Spin'

Will Lifehouse’s new single, “Spin,” get as much love as their 2000 hit “Hanging by a Moment,” which received more radio airplay in 2001 than any other song? If the public’s appetite for poppy hard rock hasn’t waned, “Spin” should soon be blasting over the airwaves and propelling the band’s second album, Stanley Climbfall, to stratospheric heights when it arrives on September 17. The song is a little more involved than the band’s debut single, blending Led Zeppelin groove and trippy Beatles-y arpeggios within the group’s standard Stone Temple Pilots-meets-Matchbox Twenty foundation, but the track could still have be called… Read more »

Ozzy Returning To Ozzfest Sooner Than Expected

The Prince of Darkness will retake his rightful place on the Ozzfest throne sooner than expected. Last week when Ozzy Osbourne first announced his departure from the trek to be with wife/manager Sharon during her first chemotherapy session in her battle with cancer (see “Sharon Osbourne Completes First Chemo Session; Ozzy, Sabbath Come Home”), he said he planned to rejoin the tour August 22 in Denver. He will now return and resume his headlining slot August 7 in Clarkston, Michigan, according to an Osbournes spokesperson. The new restart date means Osbourne will only miss two dates of the tour: August… Read more »

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will step behind the camera to direct the first video from the band’s new album. The clip for “All My Life” is scheduled to be filmed in Los Angeles the week of August 12, according to the band’s publicist. The song has been tapped as the first single from the Foo Fighters’ fourth album, 1 X 1 (“One By One”), due October 22. Hardly an amateur when it comes to directing, Grohl also helmed the videos for “Monkey Wrench” and “My Hero,” both from 1997’s The Colour and the Shape. Besides recording tunes for 1… Read more »

Neurotica Moves To Main Stage of Ozzfest

Florida rockers, Neurotica, have jumped to the main stage on the August 3rd Ozzfest date at the Polaris Amphitheatre in Columbus, OH. The band will kick things off at 5pm. Audience reaction to Neurotica’s blistering set has been so intense that a few weeks ago tour organizers bumped up the band’s performance to a later, more desirable timeslot on the second stage. After Ozzy Osbourne announced last week that he’d be leaving the tour for three weeks in order to be with wife Sharon while she undergoes chemotherapy treatments, tour organizers made some adjustments to the lineup. “We feel proud… Read more »
