About 100 student computers were seized Thursday by the U.S. Naval Academy on suspicion that they housed unauthorized music and movie files. The computers, which are given to students upon admission, were confiscated while class was in session, according to an academy spokesperson. Illegal possession of copyrighted material is against academy policy and has been a problem since the days of Napster’s widespread popularity a few years ago, said the spokesperson, who added that the offense could carry a punishment as severe as a court-marshal. Jimmy Eat World guitarist Tom Linton says headlining a show in his hometown was a dream come true. “I saw my first concert here – it was The Cure,” Linton said an hour before playing at the Mesa Amphitheatre recently in this Phoenix suburb. “I went out there today and I lay out there on the grass and just looked at the stage. Papa Roach will infest the U.S. in January on their third headlining tour in almost as many years. Jerry Horton, Dave Buckner, Tobin Esperance and Jacoby Shaddix will set out on a three-month tour, on January 13 in Vancouver, British Columbia, a DreamWorks spokesperson said. Only the first leg of the tour has been confirmed, though the band is expected to then travel up the East Coast, into Canada, and then across the Northern U.S. before wrapping up in Sacramento in mid-April. Vivendi Universal said third-quarter revenues for Vivendi Universal, excluding its utilities unit Vivendi Environnement, grew by 1 percent to $7.4 billion, despite revenue declines in its publishing and music divisions. The report, released Monday, comes as the media, entertainment and utilities conglomerate faces continuing pressure to improve its balance sheet and convince investors that its business is sound.
