Metallica To Unleash Their Anger Earlier Than Planned

Metallica might be even more angry now than they were last year when they were recording St. Anger, the band’s most brutal, bludgeoning record in years. As a result of their album being leaked over the Internet, Metallica have decided to unleash their Anger on Thursday instead of the original release date of June 10. The band’s label said the album date was moved because of the “prevalence of sub-standard versions of St. Anger already in circulation.” Various high-profile hip-hop and R&B acts – Eminem, 50 Cent, Nas and Beyoncé Knowles – have pushed the release dates of their records… Read more »

Next Puddle Of Mudd LP Will Have Heartfelt, 'Super Heavy' Songs

If you’re wondering if she still fucking hates Wes Scantlin, you probably won’t find the answer on Puddle of Mudd’s next album. “There’s a little bit of everything on this album. There’s songs that touch you like ‘Blurry’ did, but there’s no more ‘She Hates Me’s, there’s no more of that comical side, I don’t think, is there?” guitarist Doug Ardito asked Scantlin at last week’s ASCAP Pop Music Awards. “I’d have to write another song called, like, ‘She Kicked Me in the Balls’ or something like that,” the singer answered. Assuming he doesn’t, Scantlin will finish his singing duties… Read more »

Michael Jackson, the King of Pop who amassed a half-billion-dollar fortune over the past 20 years, is saddled with debt and teetering near bankruptcy, his former financial advisers say in a lawsuit. The lawsuit, set for trial June 18, claims Jackson’s extravagant spending has created “a ticking financial time bomb waiting to explode at any moment.” Union Finance and Investment Corp. of South Korea filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claiming Jackson owes the firm $12 million in fees and expenses, plus interest. Jackson previously paid the firm $3 million, the firm said. The lawsuit also seeks… Read more »

Good Charlotte's Benji Helps Mest Get 'Jaded'

Two bands have been comrades ever since Madden brothers became fans of Mest’s 2000 major-label debut. In the clip for “Jaded (These Years),” Mest reminisce about what life was like viewed through innocent eyes. It could have been a cliché that dates beyond Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days” were it not for the fact that Mest singer Tony Lovato’s eyes were never that innocent. “I didn’t grow up like normal kids, who go to high school, turn 18 and leave home to go to college,” Lovato said. “I always hung out with older kids. By the time I was 12, I… Read more »

Pearl Jam is walking the long road…away from their longtime label. The grunge-rock survivors have served notice that they’re exiting the Sony-owned Epic Records after fulfilling the terms of its contract. The Seattle quintet quietly announced the split in the Q&A section of its Sony-run Rumour Pit Website. Sandwiched between questions about where the band is playing concerts and whether it will ever play the controversial anti-White House song “Bu$hleaguer” (answer: “Ya never know…”) is the query: “Have Pearl Jam left their record company yet?” The answer is simply “yes.” Pearl Jam has been in the Epic fold since the… Read more »

Studdard Becomes New 'American Idol'

Ruben Studdard outsang Clay Aiken to become the new “American Idol.” The cuddly mountain of soul aced out his lanky, spikey-haired rival for the title in viewer voting. The results were announced during Wednesday’s conclusion of the wildly popular Fox amateur hour. “I feel great, man! Thank y’all!” said Studdard, 24, of Birmingham, Ala. Then, filled with emotion, he sang a song of gratitude, “Flying Without Wings,” as the crowd roared “RUU-ben, RUU-ben!” As expected with the two highly appealing performers, the margin dividing them was slim. Of 24 million phoned-in votes, 50.28 percent were for Ruben, putting him 130,000… Read more »

Mariah vs. Eminem

Mariah Carey’s unlikely to give Eminem a charm bracelet, much less extend an olive branch. The pissed-off pop songstress, who’s relaxing in the Caribbean before setting sail on a six-month world tour in support of her new album, Charmbracelet, had some pointed words for the rap superstar after hearing reports that Em threatened to include samples of several rambling voicemail messages she left him in an upcoming tune. “I don’t know what the hell he’s doing,” Carey grouses in the New York Daily News on Thursday. “It’s a little excessive. Doesn’t it seem a little bit girly? Like we’re in… Read more »
