Bono closed out a two-hour AIDS awareness rally in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sunday with a new song called “America’s Prayer.” Addressing more than 2,300 people on World AIDS Day, the singer discussed the AIDS epidemic in Africa and encouraged Americans to help halt the spread of the deadly disease. Bertelsmann Music Group has completed its Jive lessons. The major label group said Tuesday it has closed its acquisition of Zomba Music Group, home to teen-pop label Jive Records, paying more than $2.74 billion to acquire the stakes in the closely held group it didn’t already own. BMG already held 20% of Zomba’s record labels and 25% of its music-publishing portfolio. Viacom Inc., owner of CBS, MTV and the Paramount movie studio, reported a solid third-quarter profit Thursday, helped by strong advertising revenues at the company’s broadcast, cable, TV and radio properties. For the three months ending Sept. 30, the media conglomerate said net earnings were $640 million, or 36 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $190 million, or 11 cents per share, a year earlier.
