As Courtney Love and Nirvana’s surviving members face off in a legal battle over the band’s legacy, 120 tapes of unreleased material featuring Kurt Cobain sit in a vault – and that’s where they’ll remain, says a source close to the Cobain estate, until Nirvana’s record company gives the band a better deal. Courtney Love has blocked the surviving members of Nirvana – Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – from releasing one of the band’s final tracks, and she’s suing them for control of the group’s legacy. A Seattle judge has granted Love a preliminary injunction preventing the release of a Nirvana song called “You Know You’re Right,” which Grohl and Novoselic planned to include on a Nirvana box set due this fall. Florida Republican Cliff Stearns has introduced legislation Thursday that would exempt digital music, software, and other intangible goods sold over the Internet from sales taxes. The bill, which was co-sponsored by four other legislators, would allow states to impose sales taxes based on the delivery address, electronically delivered music, videos, and other intangibles could be sent tax-free to the buyer’s computer or other Internet device, not to a fixed mailing address. D12, Eminem’s original Detroit rap crew, opened at number one with its debut release, Devil’sNight. The disc was produced by Eminem and prominently features the rhymes of the controversial hip-hopster.
