Former Powerman 5000, Frankie Machine Members Soar In Flying Tigers

Even in a world saturated by mass-marketed hard rock bands, no one can accuse Flying Tigers of manufacturing angst. The band’s tuneful, turbulent self-titled debut was born of frustration and hard times, and the group profits from the pain. The disc chronicles the former lives of frontman Ryan Martin and drummer Gary Benson in their grungy power-pop band Frankie Machine, and what happened in the days following the release of that band’s debut album, One, in 2000. “The week it came out everyone at the label got fired, then we got dropped,” Martin recalled. “At the time we thought it… Read more »

Jay-Z, Ja Rule, P. Diddy Planned Triple Threat Tour – Then Bagged It

Imagine one of the biggest hip-hop outings in history taking shape this summer. It would be dubbed the Triple Threat Tour and feature multiplatinum acts Ja Rule, Jay-Z and P. Diddy. To top it off, each would bring with him his musical family. Representing with Ja Rule would be Ashanti and the rest of Murder Inc. Jay would “Roc the Mic” with his boys Beanie Sigel, Cam’ron and Memphis Bleek. And Diddy and his Bad Boy crew would do their thing. Keep imagining; although it was almost a reality, the tour has been called off. Last week, while promoting her… Read more »

Lenny Kravitz Tickles Pink For Summer Tour

Lenny Kravitz must be a firm believer in the theory that says a simple, direct approach is most effective. Why else would he call a tour to support his latest album, the rather uncomplicatedly titled Lenny, anything other than the decidedly descriptive Lenny Live? For his first full-scale North American road trip in almost three years, Kravitz, following a European tour and fueled by his current single, “Stillness of Heart,” is set to visit 33 cities beginning July 12 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, according to his publicist. The nearly two-month jaunt winds down September 2 in Phoenix. The last time… Read more »

Aerosmith Singer May Head for Space

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith may be blasting into orbit. The Boston Globe reports that Dan Forman, a spokesman for the band, said Tyler is laying the groundwork for a trip to outer space. Forman said Tyler’s plans are similar to those of Lance Bass of ‘N Sync, who is trying to hitch a ride into space with the Russians this fall. The 54-year-old Tyler is the father of actress Liv Tyler. The large-mouthed lead singer formed the Grammy-nominated band Aerosmith in 1970. Forman did not comment on how Tyler would pay the $20 million price tag for the trip.
