Doors Play on Despite Naysayers

The Doors are trying to light a fire among audiences minus the Lizard King, and they don’t care if people disapprove of their attempt to revive the group without Jim Morrison. “I suppose there’s always going to be those hardcore naysayers who believe that if it’s not Jim Morrison, it’s not the Doors,” said Robby Krieger, one of two original band members in the new Doors. “I don’t really care what those people think,” the 57-year-old guitarist added. “If they don’t want to come to the show, they don’t have to. It’s not a problem. Believe me, those who have… Read more »

Backstage Notes from the Video Music Awards

Back to host the MTV Video Music Awrds after a brief hiatus, Chris Rock said his decision to return was a matter of timing. “I was looking for the culture to change a little bit, and it did,” he said. He saluted past host Jimmy Fallon from “Saturday Night Live” and held out hope that another favorite comic of his eventually gets a chance to host. “Chris Tucker would be great doing this thing,” he said. Next up for Rock is the Black Ambition Tour, which will have him performing stand-up around the country. But first, he said, he was… Read more »

That’s when they’ll release their next single, “The Saddest Song.” Frontman Kris Roe wrote the piano-driven number about his relationship with his estranged daughter and his experience growing up without a father around. “I hope I get the chance to make it up to you/ We got a lot of catching up to do,” he sings. “We started playing that song live two years ago and kids… Read more »

Maybe honesty really is the best policy… for placing high on a Billboard chart. The unabashedly sincere Dashboard Confessional’s third studio album, A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar, will come in at #2 on next week’s Billboard albums chart. Sales of more than 122,000 copies affords the follow-up to 2001’s The Places You Have Come to Fear Most a first runner-up slot, right behind Alan Jackson’s Greatest Hits Volume II. The most popular country singer of the last decade after Garth Brooks sold more than 328,000 copies of his third best-of set, according to SoundScan, to place above… Read more »

The singer must also continue to attend a drug-rehabilitation program as a condition of his sentence. If he completes all the terms of his probation within the first year, the case could… Read more »

Thrice Educate, Give Fans 'All That's Left' With Major-Label Debut

The backstage area of this year’s Vans Warped Tour often resembled a punk-rock frat party, according to Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue. There was plenty of partying and more than a few juvenile practical jokes perpetrated by the bands and their crews. Such situations can be flat-out dangerous, and sometimes injuries ensue. A few weeks ago, Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge damaged his back while reaching under the band’s bus. Was he looking for water balloons filled with sour milk to throw at the members of Pennywise? Nope. He was trying to remove his suitcase from the storage compartment, and in the… Read more »

Evanescence Make Understatement Of The Year At Chicago Sweat Factory – Review

“You may know this song,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee uttered demurely nine songs into the group’s headlining set Tuesday night at the Congress Theatre. “It’s the song that got us here.” Understatement of the year. Without “Bring Me to Life,” the ubiquitous rap-rock confection featured on Fallen, the Little Rock, Arkansas, troupe would be far more concerned finding people who can pronounce “Evanescence” than finding wall space for their double-platinum album. Now, only five months after the release of Fallen, Evanescence are headlining the Nintendo Fusion Tour, a 20-date excursion that has the band performing after Cold, the group that’s… Read more »
