Former Poison Frontman's Guitar Missing

PORTAGE, Ind. – Former Poison singer Bret Michaels has asked fans to help him find his custom-made guitar, which was apparently stolen at the end of a concert last week. Michaels’ red-and-white Holden six-string electric guitar with a picture of a skull wearing a top hat on the front was taken as he played a concert Nov. 12 at McCool’s bar along U.S. 6 about 15 miles east of Gary. A photo of Michaels with the guitar was posted on his Web site, www.bretmichaels.com. “This guitar has a lot of sentimental value to Bret and we just want to get… Read more »

Eminem Shreds The Competition

For the third time in his career, Eminem has a new album debuting atop the Billboard albums chart. Encore, the rapper’s fourth full-length LP, will bow at #1 on next week’s chart with more than 710,000 copies sold, according to SoundScan. What’s more impressive is that Shady pulled off the feat with less than a full first-week’s worth of sales. Because the album leaked online, Encore went on sale Friday, four days before the previously scheduled release of Tuesday. Since SoundScan ends each week’s tally on Sundays at midnight, Em’s 710,000 copies, which is also the year’s fourth-largest first-week total,… Read more »

Sum 41 Video Skit Deemed Unsuitable For Children

While Sum 41 were on tour with Good Charlotte last week, the show made the local news. The report, however, could have been a little more positive. Under the banner “Concert Concerns,” a segment ran on the local news in New Orleans that slammed Sum 41 for the violence in the short film the band plays before their set. The clip shows drummer Stevo, decked out in the dorkiest basketball uniform he could find – complete with knee-high socks, wristbands, short-shorts and sports goggles – challenging a demurely dressed bassist Cone to a game of hoops. Cone, of course, righteously… Read more »

Bright Eyes Go A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Techno

Nelly had a fair amount of success earlier this fall when he suckered his fans into buying not one, but two new albums on the same day: the party-pumping Sweat and the slow-jammin’ Suit. You’ve got to have some moxy to pull off the two separate albums released on the same day trick (Guns N’ Roses and Tom Waits – who’ve both pulled it off – aren’t exactly your typical artists). If anything, Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst has moxy. The indie rock heartthrob will not only release two albums on the same day (January 25), but he’s planning to launch… Read more »

Evanescence's New Sound Is Reminiscent Of… Evanescence

Where Evanescence were once propelled solely by a pair of songwriters, the creative process has become a lot more democratic since the departure of guitarist Ben Moody. And yet Amy Lee continues to get the ball rolling the way she always has: behind closed doors. “I write by myself initially,” the band’s singer explained. “That’s the way I’ve always written, just working on pure thought by myself. Then I bring it to the table with whoever I’m collaborating with.” After Moody split in late 2003, he was replaced on tour by former Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo, who permanently joined the… Read more »

EMI Reports Net Loss for First Half

London – EMI Group PLC, one of the world’s ‘big three’ music companies, reported a fall in sales and a net loss for the first half of its fiscal year Friday but said it expected an improvement in the second half when its album release schedule kicks in. EMI, whose artists include Coldplay, Norah Jones, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams, said it was confident the global music industry was returning to a growth phase after a sales slump from 2000 to 2003. Chairman Eric Nicoli said the global industry recorded a decline of 1.3 percent for the first half of… Read more »

With the Dubliner’s new album, How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, hitting stores on Nov. 23 and their tunes already featured in everything from iPod commercials to episodes of CSI and The O.C., the group is now making plans to blanket the globe. Billboard reports that U2-which last rocked North America four years ago on their mega-successful Elevation trek in support of the 2000 release All That You Can’t Leave Behind -will kick off their jaunt March 1 in Florida. “We’ll play approximate 35 shows in the arenas in the spring in the U.S.,” the group’s longtime manager Paul McGuninness… Read more »

U2 Plugs Leak with MTV

In an effort to stop the wholesale looting of U2’s forthcoming ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb’ by illicit file-sharers, the band has partnered with MTV.com and VH1.com for exclusive, and legal, online streaming of the new album. Ever since an unfinished copy of the album went missing in France in July, the band and its label have been bracing for the album to hit the net before the Nov. 23 release date. Then last week, songs from the band’s eagerly anticipated 11th studio set began circulating online. While it’s not known for certain whether the AWOL copy was the… Read more »

U2 Expert Explains Bono And Crew's Lasting Popularity

This past weekend brought fans of the four boys from Dublin to Toronto for InTO The Heart, a U2 Fan Fest. The conference brought U2 expert B.P. Fallon to town to share his insight on Bono and the gang. Fallon has a rich rock history – he’s been on tour with Led Zeppelin, his Death Disco club nights attract the brightest of stars, he was U2’s DJ on the ZooTV tour and he’s perhaps the world’s ultimate authority on the world’s self-proclaimed biggest band. And although an international fan conference is something that few bands can boast, Fallon says this… Read more »
