Pete Wentz Denies Fiance Simpson is Pregnant

Is Ashlee Simpson pregnant? And, if so, is that the reason she and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz announced their engagement last week? Well, according to a pair of well-known gossip publications, the answer to both questions is a resounding “yes.” Of course, Wentz begs to differ. In an e-mail to MTV News, Wentz denied reports that surfaced Monday (April 14) on the Web sites of OK! magazine and Us Weekly that he and Simpson, 23, are expecting their first child. “There is a witch hunt for people to be pregnant whenever they get engaged in Hollywood,” he wrote.… Read more »

Jay-Z and Beyonce Tie The Knot

It appears that Jay-Z and Beyonce have finally tied the knot. There was a swirl of activity Friday at the rap mogul’s Tribeca apartment. Delivery trucks funneled in and out of the building, dropping off silver candelabras and white flowers. A white tent was set up on the roof, and stars including Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, were spotted arriving. A swarm of media camped outside the building was in a state of frenzy, snapping and shouting at any sport-utility vehicle that drove down the cobblestone street. The Web sites of… Read more »

'80s singer Rick Astley latest Web phenomenon

It’s been more than 20 years since Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” topped the Billboard Hot 100, but it is once again infiltrating the public consciousness thanks to the phenomenon known as “RickRolling.” Around March 2007, bloggers and online social networkers started casually linking to the song’s nostalgically ’80s music video via YouTube. RickRolling was a psych-out for readers who would click on tantalizing hyperlinks, only to fall prey to a young Astley’s blonde bouffant and idiosyncratic dance moves. RickRolling has since taken on a life of its own, with YouTube users creating their own lip-synced routines and… Read more »

The Democratization of the Music Industry

As I write this, iTunes ranks as the 2nd largest seller of music in the U.S. — only Wal-Mart’s physical stores sell more. Digital revenue is real, and there is a lot of it being earned. Sales from iTunes alone can provide a band enough revenue to achieve true financial success. Don’t take my word for it, just look at some of the sales by the following unsigned artists utilizing the Net for both digital distribution and marketing: Kelly sold over 500,000 songs in five months, Eric Hutchinson sold 120,000 songs in three weeks, The Medic Droid sold over 25,000… Read more »

Pete Wentz Joins Suicide Prevention Program

Pete Wentz has joined the Jed Foundation’s Half of Us campaign, a suicide prevention program that’s also supported by such stars as Billy Corgan and Mary J. Blige. To help college students understand how he too has struggled with thoughts of suicide, the Fall Out Boy frontman spoke to MTV’s college channel, mtvU. “I always had this underlying depression,” Wentz says in the interview. “The darkest moment was when we had just finished recording our major-label record, and two days later we were going to go to Europe and I felt completely lost and out of control.” Soon after, Wentz… Read more »

Punk, Celtic-folk mix hardly traditional

Who said you can never go home again? For Dublin-born singer-guitarist Dave King of Irish-American punk rockers Flogging Molly, all it took was a little help from his eventual wife and bandmate, violinist Bridget Regan. “When I heard Bridget playing the fiddle it brought out a lot of feelings in me,” King said through a bright and friendly Irish brogue during a recent phone interview with “I wanted to take that feeling and go back home – not physically of course. It just seemed to all fall together for me.” A lilting mix of traditional Celtic sounds – fiddle, banjo,… Read more »

Panic at the Disco Shrink in New Video

Panic at the Disco recently filmed the video for ‘That Green Gentleman’ in L.A., which finds the band turned Russian dolls that shrink in size. The video also featured a number of extras, who won the chance to hang with Panic and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz after they submitted their best lip-synching videos, filmed on their Nokia N95 phones, to ‘I Write Sins, Not Tragedies.’ “We all saw the ones that won and then a few other ones that were right up there with it,” Panic’s Spencer Smith tells PopEater. “That was pretty funny. It’s always a good laugh… Read more »

Ben Mollin to head "The Clandestine Industries salon" for Pete Wentz

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz is opening a punk-themed unisex beauty parlor in Chicago, according to the New York Daily News. Wentz will call it The Clandestine Industries salon. Head stylist Ben Mollin from Bravo’s “Shear Genius” is already booking appointments, but the first snips won’t happen until the hair cuttery opens in April. This isn’t the first time Wentz has branched out beyond the music industry. The Starting Line to Call it Quits… For Now

The following message was sent to Starting Line fans via email Wednesday evening: From all the east coast to west coast states I want to feel the warmth from the buzz that I create But I’m really not too sure If it’s ever gonna happen But I know that I’m not too concerned Imagine getting your first job when you were 15 years old and doing that exact same job for the rest of your life. Even if it’s the dream job that most people would kill for, eventually you need to stop for a minute and see what else… Read more »
