Album Review: Fall Out Boy

Forget MySpace, viral nude pics, emo and eyeliner — Fall Out Boy has grander ambitions. With “Infinity on High,” a shamelessly melodic, wild and powerful pop record, the Chicago outfit has reinvented itself as the world’s biggest boy band. The set, which opens with an intro by Jay-Z, wraps catchy emo hooks around epic production employing huge harmonies, R&B grooves, samples and strings. But the real surprise is singer Patrick Stump, who explores his full vocal range and croons like a soulman. Fall Out Boy 2.0 is at its self-indulgent best on the funky “The Take Over, the Breaks Over”… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Aim High With Three-Gigs-In-A-Day Tour

Much like their friend/mentor/sorta-boss Jay-Z, Fall Out Boy plan to celebrate the release of their new album with a larger-than-life publicity stunt. They’re even taking a tip from Jay and his epic eight-shows-in-one-day effort by staging multiple shows in multiple locations over the course of a single day. On February 6, the day their Infinity On High album hits stores , FOB will team with MTV to play three shows – in three different cities – in one day. It’s a continent-spanning endeavor they’ve dubbed Infinity Flight 206. The whole thing kicks off with a morning performance at MTV’s Times… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Trace Album Leak

Fall Out Boy have described their recent album leak onto the internet as ‘devastating’, and have targeted a disgruntled worker at the pressing plant manufacturing their new album as the source of the leak. “Infinity On High” was leaked prematurely onto file sharing sites some four weeks ahead of its release date in February, and bassist Pete Wentz says the band’s label suspect a low-level worker at the CD duplicating plant. “Our job is to put out records and tour and make music. What are we gonna do? Sit at the plant and watch everybody?,” says Wentz. “Some guy working… Read more »

Fall Out Boy's Answer To Album Leak: More Music

By now, you might be aware that Fall Out Boy’s new album, Infinity on High, somehow leaked online over the weekend. What you might not know is what FOB’s label, Island Records, plans to do about it. You may have heard that the label was thinking about moving the album’s release date up a week, from February 6 to January 30. And you probably read the reports on various message boards that FOB mouthpiece/bassist Pete Wentz all but confirmed that move onstage at a Friends or Enemies Tour stop in Atlanta. Well, it turns out that none of that information… Read more »

Beyonce, Fall Out Boy Lead U.S. Singles Chart

Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” led the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts for an eighth consecutive week Thursday, but barely edged the new single from Fall Out Boy. The pop punk band’s “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s An Arms Race” debuted at No. 2 thanks to 162,000 digital downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is the highest bow for a band since radio-only titles joined the chart in December 1998. The last group to start as well or better was Aerosmith, who debuted at No. 1 under prior Hot 100 rules with “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” in September 1998. In… Read more »
