Mr. Cheeks and P. Diddy performing the remix of “Lights, Camera, Action!” together at Tuesday’s Urban Aid 2 was just a preview of things to come, according to the Queens MC. “We’ve been rolling since way back, but we have some time where we got to do some things together,” Cheeks said of his relationship with P. Diddy, who he may work with in the studio again. “We’ve got the tour coming with ‘NSYNC and Diddy.” Cheeks said P.D. has invited him to perform as part of the opening act on ‘NSYNC’s current second leg of their Celebrity tour. Ticket sales out of tune for mid-level acts

While concert ticket sales have begun to rebound for top-level acts since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, it’s the medium-range and niche bands that have felt the pinch and are likely to suffer further, industry insiders said. Ticket sales for such mainstream acts as Madonna, U2, Elton John, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Buffett continue to be strong, while tours catering to a niche teen demographic are not selling as well. Notable examples, according to sources, include the Family Values Tour, featuring Linkin Park, Staind and Stone Temple Pilots, and the Pledge of Allegiance tour, which… Read more »

Fatboy Slim Dominate MTV Video Awards

Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” shot up the competition by bringing home six “Moon Man” trophies – including breakthrough video and best direction – Thursday night during the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. But “Weapon of Choice,” directed by Spike Jonze and featuring Christopher Walken dancing up a hotel’s walls, was shut out of the prestigious video of the year prize, which went to Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink for “Lady Marmalade.” Last year’s big winners ‘N Sync walked away with four trophies for “Pop,” including the coveted Viewer’s Choice… Read more »

Founded with a charitable purpose just as fierce as the rock performances it’s delivering, the outing seems to be riding on… Read more »

'NSYNC Likely To Outsell Everyone But Themselves

Celebrity sales projected to fall just short of record set by group’s No Strings Attached. “Dirty pop” is turning out to be huge for ‘NSYNC, though maybe not as huge as last year’s model. Four national retail chains said Wednesday (July 25) that based on first-day sales of ‘NSYNC’s new album, Celebrity, projected first-week numbers appeared to be falling just short of those for the group’s No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first week last March – the highest first-week sales of the SoundScan era. But Celebrity, released Tuesday, does seem to be on course to… Read more »

Pop Acts Put Out Records Faster

Time was, pop stars who hit it big would ride out the success of an album and then lie low for awhile, presumably restoring their creative energies and also whetting the public’s appetite for the next record. Not any more. Today’s acts – wary of fickle fans and short attention spans – are pumping out albums in quick succession so as not to lose the spotlight to someone else. “Unfortunately right now, you have to just hit while you’re hot,” said teen pop starlet Jessica Simpson, who released her self-titled second album in June, a year and a half after… Read more »
