New Found Glory Recall DC's Warped Tour Accident

At most Warped Tour shows, the biggest hazard to your health is usually a stray Dr. Martens or an errant chain wallet. But at the tour’s August 4 stop at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia, some fans discovered that the dangers can come from above. As New Found Glory were playing their set, the skies over the Pavilion parking lot suddenly darkened and the wind began to pick up. A meteorological phenomenon called a microburst – a sudden and forceful downburst of air – ripped through the lot. “This weird gust of wind came out of nowhere,” said guitarist… Read more »

Pop Acts Forge Path Without Major Labels

When a pop artist leaves the shelter of a major-label nest, the stark reality of being on one’s own can be a sobering experience. But learning to fly solo can also bring tremendous rewards. But several acts – including Evan & Jaron, Sophie B. Hawkins and Alana Davisare forging their own path. Former Columbia duo Evan & Jaron… Read more »

Glitz, Star Power Heats Up at Super Bowl

For the humdrum New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, putting on a show to match the glitz, glitter and star power of the rest of Super Bowl Sunday was no easy task. Typical of America’s biggest unofficial holiday, the game was only the icing on an over-the-top extravaganza. There was a gleaming new $450 million stadium to show off, a slew of pricey new ads, and Beyonce, Janet Jackson and P. Diddy to share the field. The biggest cliffhanger of the week wasn’t who would win, but whether Janet’s brother, Michael, would show up. He didn’t, but Justin Timberlake did,… Read more »
