XM Places $1 Billion Bet On Satellite Radio Launch


From a chair that looked as if it belongs on the starship Enterprise, Hugh Panero flipped a switch Tuesday and formally launched XM, the first of the nationwide satellite radio services to go on the air. Arbitron Profile Shows MTVi Listeners Educated, Affluent And Active Online Consumers


According to the latest results of an Arbitron Webcast Audience Profiles(SM), the company’s new tool for profiling streaming media audiences, a majority of listeners for the Internet radio network MTVi are well-educated, affluent and active online. The survey, conducted in July and August 2001, reveals that more than two-thirds of MTVi’s listeners (69 percent) are college graduates and/or are attaining a post-graduate degree. PJ Harvey won Britain’s most prestigious popular music award on Tuesday, but was unable to accept it in person after being stranded in the United States following devastating attacks on New York and Washington.
