Gibson Guitar Being Fine-Tuned


Gibson Guitar Corp. chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz is intent on keeping Gibson on the cutting edge of technology. The company has established a consumer electronics division called Gibson Audio and developed its first product, the Wurlitzer Digital Jukebox. The product is being launched Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and has been awarded the Consumer Electronics Assn.’s best in audio award. Made Clothing Partners With Nike


Made Clothing have announced a partnership with Nike to manufacture a limited edition run of Nike Dunk shoes. The clothing company, started by Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden, will produced 100-300 pairs of Made branded sneakers. While some will be made available to the public, most will be provided to bands that the company sponsors. Made Clothing will also set aside some sneakers for donation to charities such as Amnesty International. Radiohead are more likely to release an EP, or even several EPs, before recording another full-length album. With the release of their sixth studio disc, Hail To The Thief, the band have fulfilled their contract with their record label, and now singer Thom Yorke says they’re looking forward to not having to make another album right away. John Mellencamp has lashed out at PresidentGeorge W. Bush and America’s foreign policy. Duran Duran to Play Sell-Out London Show


Duran Duran, the 1980s “New Romantic” band who championed eye-liner, shoulder pads and teased blond hair, will play a comeback show in London on Tuesday. Their publicist said all 2,000 tickets had sold out within 20 minutes of going on sale and were changing hands on the Internet for 200 pounds ($330) each. All-American Rejects Go Pro


All-American Rejects are itching for new tunes. The Oklahoma rockers’ self-titled debut was released by Dreamworks in January, but it’s really almost a year-and-a-half old, having been first released last fall by indie Doghouse Records. “We’ve got some new stuff going on,” says guitarist Nick Wheeler. “We’re totally stoked on doing a new album.” More than half of the new album is already in demo form or in the head of frontman Tyson Ritter. “He comes up with the melody and the basic chord structure, and then I’ll come in and do the music-theory, geeky shit to it,” Wheeler says.… Read more »

Beyond File-Sharing, a Nation of Copiers


The week the music industry brought suit against 261 users of Internet file-sharing services, Donald L. McCabe was in St. Louis to talk about a different form of digital copying. Mr. McCabe, a Rutgers University professor, has made a career of studying the cheating of American high school and college students. His most recent study found that cheating was spreading almost like file-sharing.
