Rob Zombie To Replace Rage Project On Ozzfest Main Stage

It seems Ozzfest, like any good corporation, promotes from within. Former second-stage headliner Rob Zombie will fill the main-stage slot vacated by the untitled Chris Cornell-Rage Against the Machine collaboration, which forfeited the slot after the ex-Soundgarden singer announced he was “no longer moving forward” with the project, according to tour organizers. Although appearing on the larger stage, Zombie will still perform the stripped-down set he planned for the second stage. The move now allows Down – a group composed of Pantera’s Philip Anselmo and members of Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar – to headline the second stage, while… Read more »

Sir Elton Meets Ryan Adams At The 'Crossroads'

Showing his deep admiration for Ryan Adams, Sir Elton John addressed the young rock and roller as “fabulous one” during a taping Tuesday night for “CMT Crossroads.” In Studio A at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, John told an invited audience how Adams’ 2000 solo debut, Heartbreaker, prompted him to reassess his own approach to recording. “If I hadn’t heard Heartbreaker, I’d probably be lost in overproduction somewhere,” John said during a question-and-answer segment of the show, which explores the common country music roots of artists from diverse backgrounds. “I was completely and utterly floored by the simplicity… Read more »

Megadeth Pack It In After Nearly 20 Years

The fourth track on Megadeth’s 2001 album, The World Needs a Hero, is “1000 Times Goodbye.” Written as a breakup song, its title is more meaningful now that after nine studio albums and nearly 20 years, Megadeth have bid the world farewell. Frontman Dave Mustaine made the announcement Wednesday (April 3) in a written statement. “For the time being, I have decided to exit Megadeth and explore other areas of the music business,” he said. Mustaine’s decision was triggered by a series of episodes that date back to the beginning of the year. In January, he relapsed after over a… Read more »

Papa Roach's 'She Loves Me Not' Inspired By Marital Strife

The inspiration for “She Loves Me Not,” the first single from Papa Roach’s upcoming album, Lovehatetragedy, didn’t come easy to frontman Jacoby Shaddix. The track is about his sometimes-turbulent relationship with his wife, Kelly, who recently gave birth to their first child, Makaile Cielo Shaddix. The chorus, which includes the lines, “I don’t know if I care/ I’m the jerk/ Life’s not fair/ Fighting all the time/ This is out of line/ She loves me not,” illustrates the stress of trying to juggle your relationship and your band. “I feel like anything I do is just not enough,” Shaddix, formerly… Read more »

O-Town fans hoping for a change of sonic scenery will have to wait only three more months for new material from the pop group. While the album has yet to be titled, “I Showed Her” has been chosen as its first single and is expected to surface at radio in mid-May. “Favorite Girl,” another track off the album, was written and produced by rapper Nelly, and the group itself takes credit for penning three others. Sum41 Dodge Panties, Play Metal-Lovin' Fools At Tour Launch

April fools were on the loose at the kick-off date of the Sum Like It Hot Tour Monday night at the Electric Factory. At the head of the parade was Deryck Whibley, who led his band, Sum41, in an hour’s worth of snotty punk rock, heavy metal reverence and irreverent shtick. The singer donned a Nike headband thrown onto the stage from the audience. “Does this make me cool?” Whibley asked before taking it off. “I’m just not cool – sorry.” Dave Baksh, Sum41’s lead guitarist and stage foil to Whibley, replied, “Nothing will make you look cool.” Maybe not… Read more »

Blink-182 Offshoot Boxcar Racer Make Live Debut – Review

Blink-182 side project Boxcar Racer played their debut show Monday night, exhausting their supply of songs as well as their frontman, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge. Halfway through the band’s 40-minute set at the Mira Mesa Epicentre, a sweat-drenched DeLonge moaned, “F-, I’m tired. I’m out of shape.” Though more likely he just wasn’t used to being the sole focus of attention. Peering from behind a curtain of hair that hid his eyes, early on DeLonge said of the club’s low ceiling beams: “I like the rafters. It kind of hides my face from you guys.” Still, without Blink-182 singer/bassist Mark Hoppus… Read more »

Pearlman Cleared of Child Labor Suit

Lou Pearlman, the hitmaker behind the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync, has been cleared of allegations that he broke child labor laws. The Florida Department of Labor said there was no evidence that Pearlman and his Orlando-based company, Trans Continental Entertainment, violated such rules as making minors work past 11:30 p.m, as alleged by the mother of two of his former entertainers. Kenneth W. Williams, an administrator in the Labor Department’s Office of Compliance and Enforcement, wrote to Pearlman on Thursday and said the allegations are unproven. “Therefore, we are terminating our investigation and closing our files on this case,”… Read more »

INXS Plot U.S. Return

“We’re cranking up the big handle again and heading over yonder,” says INXS guitarist Tim Farriss about his band’s upcoming trek across America, the Aussie group’s first since 1997. “We’re really, really excited about it. It’s going to be a real interesting show.” Beginning May 30th in Anaheim, California, the twenty-four-date jaunt will mark the band’s first stateside gigs since the death of singer Michael Hutchence. Filling in on vocal duties for the time being is longtime friend of the band Jon Stevens, who over the last few years has taken the vocal reins at INXS shows Down Under. “Jon’s… Read more »
