Jimmy Eat World Finds Success

Jimmy Eat World guitarist Tom Linton says headlining a show in his hometown was a dream come true. “I saw my first concert here – it was The Cure,” Linton said an hour before playing at the Mesa Amphitheatre recently in this Phoenix suburb. “I went out there today and I lay out there on the grass and just looked at the stage. I can’t describe this feeling. It’s craziness.” Before the band took the stage, the largely teenage crowd chanted, “Jimmy, Jimmy.” They sang along once the band started playing. Jimmy Eat World’s self-titled album went platinum in September… Read more »

Justincase Inspired by Many Artists

When the teen rock band justincase went on the road to promote their self-titled CD on the Maverick label, they took their mother with them. That’s not surprising. The three Tosco siblings – Justin (vocals, guitar), Nick (drums) and Hannahcome from a close-knit family, where music is an important part of their life. “They were exposed to music from the time they were in diapers,” says their father, John Tosco, a guitar teacher who’s prominent on the local music scene. “Music was part of their upbringing.” Around the time Justin was born, John and his wife, Holly, began inviting local… Read more »

Papa Roach To Headline Tour In January

Papa Roach will infest the U.S. in January on their third headlining tour in almost as many years. Jerry Horton, Dave Buckner, Tobin Esperance and Jacoby Shaddix will set out on a three-month tour, on January 13 in Vancouver, British Columbia, a DreamWorks spokesperson said. Only the first leg of the tour has been confirmed, though the band is expected to then travel up the East Coast, into Canada, and then across the Northern U.S. before wrapping up in Sacramento in mid-April. Swedish rockers Blindside will open, and a third slot may be filled by regional acts. Papa Roach’s last… Read more »

Five Questions With Nick Carter

Even though Nick Carter has sold more than 36 million records as one of the Backstreet Boys, he thinks of himself as just another new artist with the debut of his “Now or Never” album. “I’m really… like somebody who hasn’t sold a record,” says Carter, the youngest member of the group and the first to release a solo album. But he’s got one advantage over other aspiring singers: an instant fan base. Some two dozen fans waited outside his midtown Manhattan hotel recently, hoping to see him. “These are the small things that mean so much to me,” says… Read more »

Uncle Sells Eminem's Childhood Home

A modest, 1 1/2-story house in a rough-edged neighborhood of this Detroit suburb is up for sale on eBay for a minimum bid of $120,000, though city records show it’s worth about $47,000. What the records don’t show is that the house is the boyhood home of rap and movie star Eminem. Todd Nelson, Eminem’s uncle, recently sold the house for $45,000 to lawyer Sebastian Lucido and his partner, Macomb County commissioner and real estate developer Roland Fraschetti. Lucido and Fraschetti put it up for sale on the Internet auction site Thursday. Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III in St.… Read more »

Jackson Shows Up Late to Testify

Michael Jackson, who arrived fours hours late to testify in a $21 million lawsuit against him, has asked the judge to delay next week’s scheduled testimony so he can travel to Germany to accept an award. “The award is of deep importance to me, it’s philanthropic,” he told Superior Court Judge Zel Canter. “I’ve done a lot of work for children.” The postponement isn’t the first that Jackson has requested. On Thursday, his second day of testimony, Jackson was granted permission to delay that day’s court appearance by several hours. He arrived Thursday without the surgical mask he had worn… Read more »

Michael Jackson Testifies at Trial

Reclusive pop star Michael Jackson took the witness stand Wednesday in a $21 million lawsuit by his longtime promoter that accuses the singer of backing out of two millennium concerts. Jackson spoke softly while testifying, saying yes or no or asking for questions to be repeated. He paused frequently when asked about his business relationship with the plaintiff, concert promoter Marcel Avram. The German-based promoter alleges he was left with hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses after Jackson dropped out of the performances, which were to take place Dec. 31, 1999, on both sides of the international date line… Read more »

Guitars Designed for Charity Auction

Giant guitars designed by Yoko Ono, Keith Richards and Drew Carey took center stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame charity auction. Ten-foot-tall replicas of Fender Stratocaster guitars had spent the summer on display throughout the city. A total of 90 guitars fetched about $800,000 Saturday night at an auction to benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, the United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, organizers said. Each bidder paid $75 or $150 to attend the catered gala at the rock hall. George Simon, a restaurant owner and lawyer, spent $105,000 for a guitar painted… Read more »

New Found Glory, Something Corporate, Finch Energize DC – Review

The lyrics to the song “This Is My Life Story” by MXPX run through my head as I hopelessly scramble to the very back of the line. I left later than I had hoped, got caught up in D.C. traffic, and arrived about 5 minutes before doors were scheduled to open. Once inside, I rush to get as close to the stage as I possible. While mashed between about five teeny boppers and their “boyfriends,” anticipation runs through my bones as I eagerly await the first performance. First up is Further Seems Forever. I was a little skeptical about this… Read more »
