Bee Gees Receive Honorary Grammy Award

Bee Gees Barry and Robin Gibb received an honorary Grammy Award Sunday night without their brother, Maurice, who died last month. The third member of pioneering disco trio died Jan. 12 of a heart attack before undergoing emergency surgery for an intestinal blockage. “I think this is just a little bit harder than Robin and I imagined it could ever be,” said Barry Gibb, who received a standing ovation with his brother when they walked on stage. “It’s getting harder.” He went on to pay tribute to his late brother’s wife, son and daughter. “The measure of a man is… Read more »

Vignettes From the Grammy Awards

Despite concerns that the Grammy Awards would become a forum for anti-war sentiment, most political messages were muted. “NO WAR” was written in silver letters on Sheryl Crow’s guitar strap as she performed, although her hair usually covered up most of the “NO.” Bonnie Raitt slipped in a four-word message, “let’s build some peace,” before handing out an award. And No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani wore a halter top emblazoned with the word, “love,” and combat fatigue hot pants. “I hope we all are in agreeance that this war should go away as soon as possible,” said Limp Bizkit lead singer… Read more »

The heavy metal “hair” band, which reached the brief apex of its career in the 1980s, will now be forever remembered for a devastating fire that stands in a class by itself as the deadliest episode in the annals of rock ‘n’ roll mayhem.… Read more »

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and son Jack opened their Beverly Hills house to journalists on Tuesday to announce the lineup for the eighth annual outing of Ozzfest. Dressed in his best pair of tracksuit pants and a black T-shirt, a typically befuddled Ozzy slurred his way through the news conference while a svelte Sharon, as usual, took charge of proceedings, firing off insults at her guests and husband. Boy-Band Mogul Faces Florida Probe

Boy-band hitmaker Lou Pearlman is the target of a state probe into complaints that hundreds of aspiring models and actors were duped into paying up to $1,500 each for spots on his company’s Web site. Clients say they were led to believe that Pearlman’s company, Trans Continental Talent Inc., would help them find work – not just post their pictures online. The investigation, which began in August, has turned up “hundreds of potential violations” but no one who actually landed a job through the company, Assistant Attorney General Jackie Dowd said. Simon Relishes Nod 35 Years After Mistake

Paul Simon said he’s celebrating his new chance at an Oscar after a paperwork mistake likely kept his song “Mrs. Robinson” out of the competition 35 years ago. The singer-songwriter received his first Academy Award nomination Tuesday for “Father and Daughter,” from the animated “The Wild Thornberrys Movie.” He said many people erroneously believe he was nominated for “Mrs. Robinson,” which he and former collaborator Art Garfunkel sang in 1967’s “The Graduate.” “We forgot to fill in the forms,” Simon acknowledged with a laugh. “You know, it was the ’60s. We just weren’t paying attention. We went along our way… Read more »
