Train Wrecks Galore At VH1 Big In '04 Awards

Los Angeles – Wednesday’s VH1 Big in ’04 awards show was a terrifying example of life imitating art, one that was dreadfully similar to “Saturday Night Live”‘s “Train Wreck Awards” skit from a few weeks ago. There was Anna Nicole Smith, just slightly more coherent than she was at the American Music Awards, threatening to flash the Shrine Auditorium audience after accepting the Big Makeover of ’04 award. There was ultimate odd couple, Flavor Flav and Brigitte Nielsen, fondling each other from the “beige carpet” to the stage, which they entered on a horse-drawn carriage. (They also tried to fondle… Read more »

Finger Eleven don’t remember where they come from. The band have enjoyed their most successful year ever – making huge headway into the U.S. modern rock market – but rather than focusing on fancy U.S. radio promo shows, the band will spend some time this holiday season giving back to their hometown of Burlington, Ontario. On December 16, F11 will play a special charity show at Big Buck’s Burlington. The show will be open to any Burlingtonian with $5 in their pocket and a non-perishable food item or unwrapped toy. Eminem Says He 'Went Crazy' With Tupac's A Cappellas For

Tupac Shakur has always meant different things to different people. But if you ask anyone who knew him personally or followed his career, they’ll all agree he was compelling, if nothing else. Eminem, for one, was so moved by Pac that he approached Shakur’s mother, Afeni, and asked to work on the deceased icon’s next posthumous album, Loyal to the Game. “I wrote to Afeni and said, ‘Please consider letting me produce this album,’ ” he told MTV News a few weeks ago in Detroit. “I just feel, as a longtime fan of Tupac… his music, his persona, his everything.… Read more »

Agent: Pink Floyd's Chorus Owed Royalties

London – Members of the children’s chorus who sang on Pink Floyd’s anti-authoritarian 1979 hit, “Another Brick in the Wall,” are owed thousands of dollars in payment, a royalties agent said. Peter Rowan said he was representing one of the group, Peter Thorpe, in a bid for unpaid royalties. Rowan said he hoped other members of the group would join the claim for royalties from a fund set up in 1997 to compensate session musicians. Two dozen students from Islington Green School in north London sang on the chart-topping track from the album “The Wall,” which was recorded at a… Read more »

The Used Are Too Bored To Be Angry

When dealing with tortured Utah scream-pop kewpies The Used, it’s all too easy to smirk at the appropriateness of their name or at singer Bert McCracken ‘s tryst with Kelly Osborne (or, for that matter, his name in particular). But then, it’s fair game when the band is, in the midst of their umpteenth interview of the day, ordered to sign hundreds of posters and CD booklets to promote their latest emo goldmine, In Love And Death. “It’s just stuff you have to do,” says mussed blond guitarist Quinn Allman, absently scribbling his John Hancock on yet another insert. “There… Read more »

Nirvana's Box Set Finally Released

Seattle – Nirvana’s box set, delayed three years by litigation, was finally released Tuesday, introducing hundreds of thousands of fans to rare recordings and even living-room video of the grunge rockers. The four-disc set, “With the Lights Out,” includes 81 tracks, 68 of them previously unreleased. It was initially planned for release in 2001 – for the 10th anniversary of the album “Nevermind” – but a dispute between Courtney Love, the widow of frontman Kurt Cobain, and the surviving bandmates delayed the project. The sides settled their legal issues in September 2002, allowing work on the box set to resume.… Read more »

Jewel Heist at Ozzy Manor

The English countryside ain’t as quaint as it used to be-just ask the Osbournes. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne had quite the scare about 4 a.m. Monday as a jewel heist unfolded at their Buckinghamshire mansion. According to police reports, burglars got away with a “large amount of jewelry” (estimated at 1 million pounds-or more than $1.9 million) and remain at large. The hard-rocking couple were home sleeping at the time of the break-in, but were not hurt-despite Ozzy’s best efforts. “The disturbance woke the residents, and a man grabbed one of the burglars,” the Thames Valley Police said in a… Read more »
