Owner Of Studio Where Eminem Recorded First LP Slain

The owner of a Detroit studio that advertises itself as the place where Eminem recorded his debut album, The Slim Shady LP, was found murdered inside the building on Tuesday. Though officials have not yet found a motive, Amjed “A.J.” Abdallah was shot twice in the entrance to the studio on famed Eight Mile Road in what appears to be a robbery gone wrong. An associate reportedly discovered Abdallah on the floor of the studio, where police found three casings from a.357 revolver. Officials have determined that Abdallah had been dead for at least two days. Detective Lt. Norman Raymond… Read more »

Record Collector to Sell Off Inventory

Pittsburgh – Behind a record store’s suburban strip mall facade sits a vaultlike storeroom that resembles dimly lit library stacks. Few customers make it behind Record-Rama Sound Archives’ checkout counter to find hundreds of thousands of LPs, CDs and 45s – which represent the last 48 years of Paul Mawhinney’s life. Mawhinney, a 65-year-old grandfather of five, claims to have accumulated nearly 3 million recordings – everything from a radio promotional album by the Rolling Stones to a rare release from Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy. He also created a database of about 700,000 titles that allows users to search… Read more »

Rocker Lets F-Word Slip on 'Tonight Show'

Los Angeles – NBC hasn’t received any calls about the F-word that Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil dropped during the live New Year’s Eve broadcast of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” “Happy f–ing New Year, Tommy!” Neil said to bandmate Tommy Lee shortly after midnight Friday. The remark was carried to viewers on the East Coast but was edited out before it was broadcast in the West, according to the entertainment trade paper Variety, which reported the incident on its Web site Monday night. Leno normally tapes his show for broadcast later in the evening but does a live… Read more »

Entertainment 2004 – What Might Have Been

New York – Just think: Instead of exposing Janet Jackson’s breast at the Super Bowl last Feb. 1, what if Justin Timberlake reached across her chest, fumbled with Jackson’s top and…. The stitching holds! There is no malfunction! That means no national discussion of showbiz morals, no drastic tightening of FCC restrictions – but the fallout is just as serious. Cameron Diaz, mortified by her boyfriend’s failed attempt to reach second base, breaks up with Timberlake before the Super Bowl is even over. She immediately sends word to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady that she’s available. The flustered Brady… Read more »

Ashlee Attacks Green Day: Backstage At MTV's New Year's

New York – At 7:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, hundreds of thousands of revelers had already begun packing into Times Square, chanting and posing for photos (many would also later don questionable hats). And though it was still early, it was just as hectic high above it all in the MTV studios: a frantic mix of cables, cameras and controlled catastrophes. It was the final rehearsal for MTV’s “Iced Out New Year’s,” and lights had to be arranged, lines rehearsed and the set decorated. The celebrities were all safely in their dressing rooms, tables and tables of sushi had… Read more »

2004 in Entertainment: Wacky and Tacky

2004 may go down in history as the year of the runaway breast. Yes, there was Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl flash, but don’t forget Tara Reid’s absent-minded red carpet dress-drop or the uproar over a sexy “Desperate Housewives” promo for Monday Night Football. Add in Colin Farrell’s missing manhood from the movie “A Home at the End of the World” and the curtailed puppet sex in “Team America: World Police,” and this was the year of nudity both seen and imagined. MOST INFAMOUS WARDROBE MALFUNCTION: Janet is disqualified because nobody believes it was an accident. So the prize goes to… Read more »

Holiday Shoppers Return Eminem to No. 1 on Charts

Los Angeles – Eminem was the top-seller among last-minute holiday shoppers as “Encore” returned to No. 1 on the U.S. album charts last week after a month-long absence. The rapper’s latest Shady/Aftermath/Interscope set jumped two places after selling 430,000 copies in the week ended Dec. 26, a 36% increase, according to Nielsen SoundScan data issued Wednesday. “Encore” now has three non-consecutive weeks atop the chart, including a two-week stay at No. 1 in November. It took over the top spot from 2Pac’s posthumous “Loyal to the Game” (Amaru/Interscope), which slid to No. 13 with 219,000 copies. Holiday shopping also saw… Read more »

Linkin Park Establish Charity To Help Tsunami Victims

Awed, humbled and shocked by the destruction caused by the tsunamis that hammered southern Asia earlier this week, Linkin Park have teamed up with the American Red Cross to establish Music for Relief, a charity dedicated to providing aid to victims of the tragedy. Linkin Park have donated $100,000 to get things going, and they’re hoping their fans and musical brethren will follow suit. “As a band, we were in a position to help, but this needs to be a lot broader effort – both by our fans and by other musicians,” Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson said. “If one… Read more »

Walkmen Give The Gift Of Profanity For Holidays, Look Forward To New LP

Proving that the holiday spirit is alive and well, even in New York’s jaded indie scene, the Walkmen have released their own version of the ubiquitous Christmas album: a three-song EP with a minute-long track of feedback and shrieked profanity. “We spent a day recording ‘Eggnog,’ ” Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser said of the explicit track. “I just screamed some curse words so we could slap a ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker on it.” Christmas Party, a limited-edition 7-inch, doesn’t exactly qualify as a new album for the band, which has been touring in support of its sophomore release, Bows Arrows, for… Read more »

Bon Jovi Are Totally Up, And It's Without Hairspray's Help

Los Angeles – Bon Jovi want to give love a good name. The New Jersey rockers recently finished recording their ninth studio record, and singer Jon Bon Jovi calls it their most upbeat album ever. “After these trying times in the States this last year, we’re trying to get back to some optimism, people accepting each other,” Bon Jovi said. Telling of their optimism is the title of the first single, “Have a Nice Day,” which the band performed at the American Music Awards last month.
