Dave Shapiro—a well-respected music industry executive who opened doors for hundreds of alternative artists in the scene—has tragically passed away today, May 22, 2025, in a small jet plane crash in San Diego, CA. He had just turned 42 years old in January. A godfather of the scene, Shapiro was a driving force in the world of artist management, booking, and touring. As a co-founder of Sound Talent Group and owner of Velocity Records, he helped guide the careers of countless alternative artists. LØLØ dives into her writing process—both for herself and with other artists—and how stepping into someone else’s creative brain can break writer’s block wide open. She talks about the song she just had to keep for herself (“u & the tin man”), her love for Taylor Swift, and the dream collaborations she’s still manifesting (Green Day, YUNGBLUD, and more).
From sneaking Easter eggs into her music and videos to building a Wizard Of Oz universe on her album and on stage—complete with a yellow brick road—LØLØ reveals how her favorite movies fuel her creativity (yes, she’s that girl who still checks the mailbox for a Hogwarts letter. Can you blame her?!)
The conversation covers everything from her Halloween stage outfits to shouting out icons like Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff, Maggie Lindemann, and the legacy of Warped Tour acts like Simple Plan and New Found Glory—plus a moment of gratitude for being discovered by NFG’s Chad Gilbert.
LØLØ also gets candid about not being allowed to go to concerts as a kid (“Hi, Mom!”) and how surreal it is to now be part of the very scene she grew up idolizing. And yes—she’s ready to play “Hot Girls In Hell” on Warped Tour… even if she wrote a song called “Poser” just in case.
Ahead of their many summer tour dates, Daisy Grenade has revealed their latest single, “So Happy.” This marks their first release of 2025, preceded by tracks “Taste,” “How To Hide A Body,” and “Hypocrite.” The lyrics on the punchy and powerful bop are so relatable. I mean, who hasn’t tried to move on and *maybe* wasn’t successful at first? The duo sings, “He looks like he just won the lottery/And I’m, I’m fine/I swore I thought I could be the bigger person/Thought I could let it go/I swore I thought I could be the bigger person/Thought I could let it… Read more »
At long last, La Dispute have officially returned. Notably, the new record is inspired heavily by Paul Schrader’s psychological thriller First Reformed (2017). This marks their first album since 2019’s Panorama. Alongside the singles release, La Dispute also shared a music video for “I Shaved My Head,” directed by Steven… Read more »
Music festival season is officially upon us. Coachella kicked off the start of massive summer concert events on April 11-13 and April 18-20, and Columbus’ Sonic Temple Festival closely followed up on May 8-11. Some attendee accounts from these fests have stirred up major controversy, which forces the question, “Are festivals getting worse?” For starters, Coachella opened their weekends with cars stuck in traffic for 12+ hours, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. “I’ve seen people pass out from heat exhaustion,” one interviewee said. Some cars even ran out of gas and needed to be pushed onto the grounds. This past… Read more »
Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan are a pop-punk match made in heaven, and they just dropped their new collab, “Young & Dumb.” Here, the iconic artists recount their early starts in the biz as young Canadians with big dreams. “This is such a full-circle moment. Not only did Simple Plan tour with me last year on the Greatest Hits Tour, but we also toured together in 2003 on my very first arena tour,” Lavigne says. She adds, “We were so young—just a bunch of kids from small towns in Canada who had just released our debut albums. We connected instantly… Read more »
So, Attack Attack!‘s Andrew Wetzel may have been fibbing on idobi Radio when he said the band broke up and that he was selling out to perform country music. On May 9, the band dropped not one, but two singles, “Dance!” featuring Lorna Shore‘s Will Ramos as well as “Chainless.” Excitingly, the tracks are set to appear on their Attack Attack! Real Friends is currently on tour supporting Silverstein on their headlining run alongside Greyhaven and Broadside. As 3OH!3 gears up for their return to Warped Tour this summer and fall—appearing on all three weekends of the revived festival—Nat Motte and Sean Foreman took a detour down memory lane during their recent idobi Warped Radio interview. And not just any memory: Silent Library. The cult-favorite MTV series, a bizarre hybrid of Jackass and a study hall fever dream, famously challenged artists to perform absurd dares—all while staying silent in a “library” setting. For 3OH!3, the show was already on their radar thanks to its original Japanese incarnation. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, we had seen the Japanese version of… Read more »
