Never Say Die: Ozzy Wants to Make Another Sabbath LP

The one thing fans will immediately notice about Ozzy Osbourne’s forthcoming LP Black Rain is that it’s drenched in some of the heaviest riffage to grace one of the Prince of Darkness’ solo outings – thanks, in large part, to Ozzy’s longtime guitarist, the Jack Daniel’s-chugging Zakk Wylde. According to Osbourne, there were times during the tracking of the album when he wondered whether the songs were too abrasive. But you see, Ozzy’s got this personal rule about making music. “If you’re heavy, don’t try to be f—ing light,” he explained. Wise words from a man whose stamp on the… Read more »

Mel B Ratchets Up Baby Battle, Plans Lawsuit

Melanie Brown has made her case for Eddie Murphy’s paternity in the court of public opinion–now she’s taking her tale to the court of law. The Spice Girl formerly known as Scary has moved to the next stage of her baby battle with reluctant would-be father Murphy, announcing plans to sue the actor after he allegedly ignored repeated requests to submit to a DNA test. Brown, who listed Murphy as the father on the birth certificate for her month-old daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, has maintained that the Dreamgirls star was not only the father of her child but that… Read more »

Reunited Rage Against The Machine Closes Coachella

Rage Against The Machine played its first show in seven years last night (April 29) to close the 2007 edition of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. The foursome tore into staples like “Testify,” “Bulls on Parade,” “People of the Sun” and “Guerrilla Radio” to one of the largest main stage crowds in the event’s history. Guitarist Tom Morello was in particularly blazing form on “Know Your Enemy,” and the band grooved in lockstep throughout, as if no time had passed since it was last active. Rage has thus far only scheduled four other shows in… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Put 'Money Where Our Mouth Is'

NEW YORK – On Saturday, more than 67,000 young activists took to the streets in 15 cities across the U.S., to raise awareness about the plight of refugees in Ugandan displacement camps. The funny thing is, once they were on those streets, they didn’t leave. Instead, they slept there, in impromptu villages made of cardboard, subsisting only on crackers and water, in a show of support for those displaced by the Ugandan government. And among those 67,000 activists was Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. The event was called Displace Me, organized by Invisible Children, a California nonprofit group aimed at… Read more »

Chili Peppers, Arcade Fire Rock Out to Sweltering Fans

INDIO, California – Perhaps it was a sign that the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arcade Fire and Hot Chip were sharing the same bill. Whatever the case, Saturday was certainly one of the most scorching Coachella afternoons ever, with temperatures into the100s for hours on end. That meant the tented stages provided plenty of shadowy solace, while pre-sunset outdoor acts were playing to their diehards and suffering while doing it. (Let’s just say there were multiple hipster rockers quoting Lil Jon’s infamous sweat-dripping lyrics.) Still, Peter Bjorn and John and the Decemberists wore their suits and the Sahara tent was… Read more »

SoundExchange vs. Webcasters: 'What's Really True'

There has been a lot of attention recently surrounding royalty rates for internet broadcasters. Let’s have a look. As a webcaster, artist, and owner of WebcastersUnite.net I would like to address some of the statements being made by SoundExchange. Lets first look at the recent claims SoundExchange has made about reaching out to small webcasters. My organization currently has 358 registered internet radio stations. SoundExchange has not “reach out ” to me, nor any other small organization of webcasters that I am aware of. I believe this to be rhetoric in an effort to make them look like the good… Read more »

Kanye West, Rod Stewart to perform at Diana concert

U.S. rapper Kanye West and British rocker Rod Stewart have been added to the lineup of artists performing at a July 1 concert to mark the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in a car crash. Diana’s sons, princes William and Harry, are organizing the event at London’s Wembley stadium, and officials said Harry, due to go to Iraq in the coming weeks to serve in the army, would probably be allowed leave to return for it. “I’ve been advised that the commanding officer is likely to grant him leave for a short period of time,” the concert’s project director… Read more »

Brown Says Murphy Left Her with Tattoo

Melanie Brown says Eddie Murphy left her with a baby, a tattoo of his name and no explanation for their sudden split. The former Spice Girl, in an interview with OK! magazine, said she and Murphy were “soul mates” who got tattoos to proclaim their love and were mutually delighted with her pregnancy – until Murphy said on TV they were through and asked for a paternity test. “A friend of mine called me to tell me. I was shocked, then I felt disgusted. We were madly in love with each other, and then this happens,” Brown told the magazine.… Read more »
