Country Icon Chet Atkins, "Mr. Guitar,'' Dead At 77


Influential guitarist Chet Atkins, who helped modernize country music in the 1960s, paving the way for the massive commercial force that it is today, died in Nashville Saturday. He was 77. In 1973 and in 1997, Atkins had fought both colon cancer and brain cancer, surviving a number of surgeries. Atkins, enjoyed a multi-faceted career: as a sought-after session musician for the likes of Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers; as a prolific recording artist in his own right; and as a veteran Nashville talent scout. Hanson Work With Carole King


Those surprised to hear the brothers Hanson had been co-writing with the likes of Matthew Sweet and ex- New Radical Gregg Alexander, may be downright shocked to hear they’ve expanded their collaboration roster to include legendary tunesmith Carole King. The Hansons – Isaac, Taylor and Zac – have just returned from mega-manager Miles Copeland’s annual “songwriting bootcamp” at Chateau de Marouatte in France where they penned and demoed two tracks, “Let You Go” and “One More Time” with King. Hanson Makes Acting Debut In Frank McKlusky, C.I.


The boys of Hanson will make their acting debut in a gig at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday (May 30) as part of the filming for Touchstone Pictures’ Frank McKlusky, C.I., due in theaters in 2002. The members of Hanson will play themselves in a concert scene in which the movie’s main character, Frank McKlusky, is chasing down an alleged insurance fraud culprit at a Hanson show. Grammy Performer Lineup Continues To Grow


The Grammys have announced additional performers for the awards ceremony. Macy Gray, Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne, Moby, Jill Scott, the Blue Man Group and classical pianist Marc-AndrÈ Hamelin will also take the stage of Los Angeles’ Staples Center for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards on February 21st. Following the example of Eminem and Elton, and Dolly Parton and Brad Paisley, Crow and Lynne will perform a duet. Crow received two Grammy nominations for duets from her Live From Central Park album.
