Outkast, New Order Join Moby's Area: One Package


Moby’s inaugural Area: One roving concert festival is taking shape with the addition of hip-hop duo Outkast and electro-rock group New Order to a lineup that includes previously announced acts Incubus and Paul Oakenfold. Mariah Carey Flies Over To Virgin


Superstar R&B chanteuse Mariah Carey has signed on at Virgin Records, leaving her longtime home of Columbia Records. Carey is slated to release her first record on the EMI imprint the soundtrack for “All that Glitters,” her upcoming 20th Century Fox film in late summer. Columbia Records confirmed Monday that the multiplatinum-selling artist, who has been with Columbia for more than a decade, had left the flagship imprint of Sony Music. INXS, Midnight Oil, Men At Work To Tour U.S.


In a triple bill of Australian rock heavyweights that would have filled arenas in 1988, INXS, Midnight Oil, and Men At Work will team for a month-long North American tour this summer. The jaunt, with INXS and Midnight Oil alternating in the closing spot each night, begins May 28 in Atlanta and wraps June 27 in Las Vegas. INXS will be fronted by Jon Stevens, replacing Michael Hutchence, who committed suicide in late 1997. Americans love to rock, according to a music trade group report released Tuesday that found rock music led the $14.3 billion U.S. recording industry market in 2000, continuing a decade-long trend. Making up nearly 25 percent of the market, consumers clearly and consistently have chosen rock as their predominant genre of choice, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) reported in its 2000 consumer profile report. Thyret To Resign As WB Records Chairman


Russ Thyret is expected to resign as chairman of Warner Bros. Records next month, making it the first hit in the anticipated shakeup at the music group. The departure of the 30-year Warner Music veteran has been grist for the rumor mill since last summer. Springsteen Shows Set For TV Broadcast


Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have appeared at a lot of venues in their decades performing together – but this spring will see the Boss and his posse bringing their live show to a venue they’ve never visited before: television. Ted Field Leaving Interscope


Interscope Records founder Ted Field has ankled the label he co-chaired for more than a decade to start his own record label and continue in his film endeavors. Field’s parting, which comes a year before the expiration of his contract, is nevertheless said to have the blessing of Interscope co-chairman Jimmy Iovine and Doug Morris, chairman of Interscope parent Universal Music Group.
