P.O.D. To Drop 'Boom,' DVD

In an age of chaos and uncertainty, P.O.D.’s new single, “Youth of the Nation,” is being embraced as a rallying cry for frustrated teens – a segment of the population that cares about the future more than its elders sometimes think. The band just finished its Youth of the Nation Tour and recently dropped a video for the song. Instead of dwelling on “Youth,” though, P.O.D. are looking to the future themselves and planning for the release of their next single, “Boom.” “We wanted to go back to the spirit we had with ‘Alive’ and have a song that encourages… Read more »

Creed's "Weathered'' still tops as disc sales slow

There’s little cheer at the beginning of the holiday sales season. With the exception of the new releases and Christmas discs from Barbra Streisand and Mannheim Steamroller, every album in the top 50 had fewer sales in the week ending Dec. 2 than the week before, according to SoundScan figures issued Wednesday. Creed’s “Weathered” (Wind-Up) continues to hold the top spot with second-week sales of 417,000 units, a 53% drop. For the rest of the holdovers in the top five, “Now That’s What I Call Music Vol. 8” (Virgin) fell 46% to 353,000 units; Garth Brooks’ “Scarecrow” (Capitol Nashville) slid… Read more »

Harrison album soars up charts

George Harrison’s landmark album “All Things Must Pass” is flying off the shelves and up the charts on a wave of nostalgia after his death from cancer last week. “There has been a very significant sales rise since Friday. If this continues it will move into the top 40 of the album charts,” Gennaro Castaldo, spokesman for leading British record retailer HMV, told Reuters Monday. The album, featuring the mystical “My Sweet Lord” – the first No. 1 single by a solo Beatle – was first released in late 1970 but was digitally remastered and re-released earlier this year before… Read more »

Christmas came early on Tuesday for hundreds of U.S. troops in Kosovo when pop diva Mariah Carey flew in to perform a festive concert for them. “We want to give them a little glamour,” said the 31-year-old singer, sporting stylish military fatigues for her frontline “day out with the boys in the Balkans.” One of the world’s most successful female artists of the past decade took a chartered jet from London to Skopje and then was off by helicopter for a whirlwind tour of bases in Kosovo. Although a new album isn’t expected until summer, Foo Fighters have given fans something to get them through the two-year dry spell since There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The straightforward stomp is a contemptuous anthem for the scorned, featuring a chorus of “You’re not the one, but you’re the only one who could make me feel like this/ You’re not the one, but you’re the only one who… Read more »

Devo Man Talks "Tenenbaum"

Mark Mothersbaugh says the score he wrote for The Royal Tenenbaums is a logical progression from the work he did on director Wes Anderson’s two previous films, Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. “Bottle Rocket was a jazz quintet, a little bit quirky,” says the former Devo singer. “Rushmore was a little more Vivaldi influenced, a lot more sixteenth notes. This movie, although the sounds are related to the last two movies, kind of branched out further. I’d never used any horns before. The core of it is a cello and piano. There’s a lot of harp in this movie, a lot… Read more »
