R.E.M. Return "In Time"


R.E.M. have set an October 28th release date for their second compilation, In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003. The collection will feature two new tracks, “Bad Day” and “Animal.” The former will also be released as the album’s first single; the band shot a video for the track last month in Vancouver. The compilation will be released on the heels of the first leg of R.E.M.’s world tour, which launched last Saturday in Holland. Canadian rock bands Treble Charger and Our Lady Peace were the big winners on Sunday as the MuchMusic Awards, Canada’s music video awards, were handed out in Toronto. Homegrown sensation Avril Lavigne picked up the trophy for best international video by a Canadian for her single, “Sk8er Boi,” and country star Shania Twain, who was raised in Timmins, Ontario, picked up the MuchMoreMusic Award for her “Up!” video. Avril, Sum 41, Sarah McLachlan Set For Toronto SARS Benefit


Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, and Sarah McLachlan are just a few of the artists who will help their home country of Canada, and especially the city of Toronto, by performing a benefit concert at Toronto’s Skydome and Air Canada Centre on Saturday (June 21). Canada is the only country outside of Asia which has had any SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) related deaths. Fear of the disease has cost Canada, and in particular Toronto, millions in tourist dollars. Radiohead To Release DVD


Radiohead will release a new DVD titled 7 Television Commercials in Canada on August 5. The DVD is a compilation of videos filmed through 1997’s OK Computer, said bassist Colin Greenwood. It features “Paranoid Android,” “Fake Plastic Trees,” and “Karma Police,” among other clips. Greenwood was asked if he had different thoughts on the videos now that he’s got some distance from when the videos were first released in the ’90s. Reel Big Fish and Drummer Part Ways


Reel Big Fish and their friend and drummer for the past 4 years, Carlos De La Garza, have parted ways. The split is an amicable one as De La Garza has opted to pursue other things and spend more time with his wife and family. Filling in on drums for their upcoming summer tour is Justin Ferreria who also plays in Fish frontman Aaron Barrett’s side project, The Forces of Evil, and formally in Jeffries Fan Club and Longfellow. SARS Continues To Affect Concerts, Promo Dates Worldwide


While the World Health Organization said that it believes the worst of severe acute respiratory syndrome is over in Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam – which got a clean bill of health on Monday for being the first nation to contain the virus – SARS is still affecting tour and promotional plans for many artists who were set to visit those regions.
