Queen and De Niro Hope Britain Goes Ga-Ga for Musical

Hollywood legend Robert de Niro and British rock giants Queen have promised “We Will Rock You” when their futuristic new musical packed with the band’s greatest hits opens in London this week. De Niro teamed up with Queen’s surviving band members and British comedian Ben Elton to produce the $10.7 million show named after one of the supergroup’s best known anthems and set in a futuristic world where musical instruments are banned. “I think it is going to be terrific,” De Niro told reporters in the run-up to Tuesday’s premiere in London’s West End. The star, best known for his… Read more »

Breeders Shout Out Tater Holler, Truck-Stop Knives, Beer Class On New LP

Considering their last album was released in 1993, you’d think the Breeders could have come up with an album title in that time. Instead, they named their new release Title TK, which in journalism jargon means “title to come” – used when information is still forthcoming. As coolly detached as she is, frontwoman Kim Deal wasn’t being a slacker. This title was conceived even before this album, due May 21, was. “I always thought Title TK sounded cool. Even when Last Splash didn’t have a name, I thought I’d call it Title TK, but I didn’t use it then. And… Read more »

Prince 'Goes There,' Avoids The Obvious At New York Gig

The first rule when you’re about to drop $75 to $150 on a concert ticket should be “Do your research.” Anyone who expected a straightforward greatest-hits retrospective from Prince at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall Tuesday night will have to write their pricey ticket off as a fine for laziness. After all, any artist who is as unpredictable as Prince has historically been should warrant no less than a quick Google search for set lists. Therein, the scientific fan would find that “Little Red Corvette” and “When Doves Cry” aren’t bloody likely. Rather, much of the One Nite Alone Tour… Read more »

P. Diddy Rescued By Loon, Ginuwine, Models Galore In 'Girl, Part 2'

At the end of his video for “I Need a Girl, Part 1,” P. Diddy made us wait to see if he could resolve his woman woes. Thankfully one of Diddy’s Bad Boys, Loon, revealed that he, Ginuwine and a house full of models help rescue P.D. from the doldrums in the clip for “I Need a Girl, Part 2.” “The first [song], to me, is like a hip-hop ballad,” surmised Loon, who also rapped in the original video. “It’s real slow, real smooth. The second song is more like a release of Puff [from] dwelling on his female situation.… Read more »

The train keeps a-rollin’ for Aerosmith, the bad boys of American rock ‘n’ roll, who are working on a slew of projects before returning to the concert circuit in the fall. The veteran quintet, which wrapped up an eight-month tour of North America and Japan in early February, said last week that it will be the subject of MTV’s second annual mtvICON tribute concert in Los Angeles next month. Kid Rock, rapper Nelly and pop singer Pink were the first to commit to the show, which will be taped at a Hollywood movie studio on April 14 and air on… Read more »

'NSYNC Tour Opener: It's The Justin And JC Show!

Lance Bass may not get to space as quickly as he’d like, but he shouldn’t worry; his band’s already in the stratosphere, and they didn’t even have to leave Portland to prove it. ‘NSYNC’s Celebrity tour kicked off Sunday at the city’s Rose Garden arena, and glitter-gelled eyelids twinkled in the night as thousands lined up for entrance, though new security measures (full bag check, metal detector wands and pocket-emptying for all) slowed things down considerably, and made not a few young girls cry, as they were forced to leave all posters, flowers and other small gifts for the boys… Read more »

3LW Dis Lil' Bow Wow, Leave Club With A Taller Baller

3LW’s Kiely Williams has a big smile on her face as she sits in Manhattan’s Battery Studios listening to “I Think I Wanna Leave With You,” off the trio’s upcoming second LP, A Girl Can Mack. “I wanna leave with you/ Do you wanna leave with me?” she asks with her groupmates Adrienne Bailon and Naturi Naughton on the chorus. But the girls’ frankness as they sing about scooping up guys in the club isn’t why Kiely has a look of mischief on her grill. It’s her rhyme “I hang with big dogs/ So what’s a Lil’ Bow Wow?” “I’m… Read more »
