Bastions of ’90s punk Green Day and Blink-182 will embark on a co-headlining jaunt, beginning April 17 in Bakersfield, California. The 41-city Pop Disaster Tour will continue through June 17 in Minneapolis, according to a tour publicist. Venues have yet to be hammered out. Ozzy Osbourne, on his first tour of Japan in four years, will tape his performance Friday at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan Hall for a live album and DVD. Live at Budokan, a title most music fans associate with Cheap Trick’s bombastic 1979 live effort, is scheduled for a summer release. Although it’s not yet known which performance songs will appear in the video, the live album will contain some B-sides from import singles, according to Osbourne’s publicist. A decade after the release of their most popular album, Dirty, dissonant art rockers Sonic Youth are reissuing the disc along with two of their other titles as double-CDs bloated with bonus material. Dirty, Goo (1990) and Daydream Nation (1988) will be issued before summer by Universal with all of the original tracks remastered, along with previously unheard demos, live cuts and B-sides, the band’s publicist said. Cartoon hip-hop/popsters Gorillaz are going on tour, confirming nine North American stops, beginning February 23rd in Toronto, in support of their platinum self-titled debut. Which begs the obvious question, how? “It will definitely involve big movie screens and lights,” says the band’s producer Dan “The Automator” Nakamura. “The musicians will be behind the screens and backlit onto them. Eighteen months on the road wasn’t enough to suck the life out of Lifehouse. Although the threesome is presently enjoying a brief touring respite, singer/guitarist Jason Wade, bassist Sergio Andrade and drummer Rick Woolstenhulme will be back in the studio in March to work on the follow-up to their 2000 breakthrough debut, No Name Face. As they did for that album – which produced rock radio’s most spun single of 2001, “Hanging by a Moment” – the Los Angeles boys will again employ producer Ron Aniello (Days of the New) to work the boards. Out Tuesday (November 13) is Driving Rain, the latest album from ex- Beatle Paul McCartney. Much attention has been paid to the fact that McCartney made the album-his first since 1999’s cover-heavy Run Devil Run, and his first release of all-new music since 1997’s Flaming Pie-with an entirely new creative team, including producer David Kahne and a group of young studio musicians that includes guitarist Rusty Anderson, keyboardist Gabe Dixon, and drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., the son of the famed session bassist. Linkin Park is in the process of organizing its own headlining tour, the first Projekt Revolution Tour, tentatively set for January of 2002. It’s being planned for U.S. arenas, and the lineup will be an eclectic mix of rock, rap, hip-hop, and electronic music. Guitarist Brad Delson said that the band is all about musical diversity. The Foo Fighters have reworked an old B-side into a new song, to be included in the soundtrack to the forthcoming movie Out Cold. The song was originally titled “Make A Bet,” and it was recorded during the band’s The Colour And The Shape sessions. The band changed a few verses and the song structure and created a new tune, “Win Or Lose.” The Out Cold soundtrack will be released November 20 on RCA Records. The September 11th terrorist attacks pulled dozens of high-profile musicians into spirited rounds of fundraising and flag waving. But Groundwork 2001, a benefit to alleviate hunger, began Sunday night, showing that such charity existed before the attacks and will presumably continue after the furor dies down. The opening show was suitably eclectic, featuring Daniel Lanois, Philip Glass, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Emmylou Harris and Dave Matthews.
