The first single from the long-awaited Foo Fighters album, 1X1 (One By One), is “All My Life.” Foo frontman Dave Grohl is set to direct the video shoot for the clip next week. Linkin Park’s Reanimation is one step closer to coming to life. The album, consisting mainly of new versions of tracks from the group’smultiplatinum 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, has gone through the mastering stage, and a final track list has been settled upon, according to the band’s manager. The 20-track LP is due July 30. Linkin Park are the prototypical rap-rock hybrid (in fact, the group’s original name was Hybrid Theory), and Reanimation doesn’t do anything to change their stance on crossbreeding genres. In addition to the release of their new album, Murray Street, next month, Sonic Youth have begun work on a trio of reissues, the first of which, Dirty, is scheduled for release this summer. Few albums have been as closely guarded as Eminem’s The Eminem Show. No one at Interscope Records has a personal copy, and journalists who want to review it have to go to special listening sessions where representatives from the rapper’s management deliver the disc, sit through the sessions and then take the record back to keep it out of enemy hands. Island/UME will on May 14 release a box set containing Irish pop quartet the Cranberries’ first four albums, each expanded with bonus material from the recording sessions. “Treasure Box – The Complete Sessions 1991-1999” features digitally remastered versions of the original Island albums – 1993’s “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?,” 1994’s “No Need To Argue,” 1996’s “To the Faithful Departed,” and 1999’s “Bury the Hatchet” – as well as a total of 21 B-sides, remixes, and compilation tracks, plus redesigned artwork specific to each disc. Two New York tribute events are in the works for May 19, which would have been late Ramones frontman Joey Ramone’s 51st birthday, Billboard.com has learned. Ramone’s mother Charlotte Lesher and brother Mickey Leigh are organizing a benefit concert at the Bowery Ballroom, which will raise funds for the not-for-profit Joey Ramone Cure for Lymphoma fund. Lineup and ticket information is still being finalized. Just up the road at the city’s legendary CBGB club, Ramones creative director Arturo Vega will stage the Bowery Electric Festival. They’re in the studio recording new material, but U2 aren’t working on a new album just yet. Instead, they’re writing songs for inclusion on an upcoming greatest-hits package that will feature songs released between 1991’s Achtung Baby and 2000’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind. The album is due out by the end of the year and will be a companion piece to Best of U2: 1980-90, which the band released in 1998. There’s not a whole lotta love lost between the surviving members of Led Zeppelin and their former label, Atlantic Records. Last week, vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones filed suit against the company, claiming they have only been paid one-quarter of the royalties owed to them for 42 of their most famous tracks, including “Whole Lotta Love” and “Stairway to Heaven,” the London Observer reported. Jones’ manager confirmed the suit, but couldn’t provide further details, and Page’s and Plant’s management refused to comment.
