Garage-rock band The Strokes, riding high in the music charts on both sides of the Atlantic, are to headline the 2002 Reading and Leeds festivals, organizers announced on Tuesday. Pop singer Jewel broke her collarbone and a rib when she was thrown from a horse at her boyfriend’s ranch Wednesday. Jewel was staying with beau Ty Murray, a major figure in the professional rodeo circuit, at his ranch near Ft. Worth, Texas, enjoying a five-day reprieve from a promotional tour, according to an Atlantic Records spokesperson. She was taken to a medical center and was undergoing treatment for the fractures and bruising at press time. Canadian power trio Rush will kick off its first tour in five years June 28 in Hartford, Conn. The 27 confirmed stops are the first in the band’s planned extensive tour in support of its latest Atlantic album, “Vapor Trails,” due May 14.
