Jewel Cancels Tour After Death of Bassist


Jewel has canceled her North American tour due to the death of her bass player, her record company announced Thursday. Terome “T-Bone” Hannon died Sept. 4 after suffering a stroke. The Detroit native, who was 39, had played with Jewel for three years. “T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him,” Jewel said in a statement released by Atlantic Records. “We are all just in shock and hurt.” The tour had been set to begin on Sept. 19 in North Charleston, S.C. Aaliyah's Parents Settle Plane Crash Suit


The parents of R&B singer and actress Aaliyah have reached an undisclosed settlement in a negligence lawsuit over her death in a 2001 plane crash, family attorneys said. A chartered Cessna 402B carrying Aaliyah and eight others crashed shortly after takeoff on a flight from Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas to the Miami suburb of Opa-locka. Investigators believed the plane was 700 pounds overloaded. Timberlake, Aguilera Tour Rebuilt and Rescheduled


Although derailed last weekend by a rigging accident, the remainder of the Justified & Stripped tour featuring co-headliners Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera has been rescheduled. The tour will pick up again Aug. 18-19 at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y., and play eight shows before closing Sept. 2 in St. Paul, Minn. A statement from Nassau Coliseum explains, “The delays were necessary to restore the show’s extensive production to its original magnitude.” Tickets for the original shows at each venue will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Never-Heard Elvis Song Set for Release Oct. 7


More than a quarter-century after his death, Elvis Presley has something new to get his fans all shook up. A never-before-released song recorded by Presley nearly 40 years ago was recently unearthed and will be issued this fall by RCA Records as part of a new collection of favorites from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the label said on Friday. The announcement comes on the eve of the 26th anniversary of Presley’s death, on Aug. 16, 1977, at age 42. Justin, Christina Postpone 2 More Shows


Two more dates on the Christina Aguilera/Justin Timberlake tour have been postponed in the wake of last Saturday’s lighting grid collapse in Atlantic City, N.J. Scheduled concerts for Wednesday in East Rutherford, N.J. and Thursday in Hartford, Conn. have been postponed, as was Monday’s show, originally set for Albany, N.Y. Drexel Starts Student-Run Record Label


Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. have nothing to worry about, but a university known more for churning out engineers than hit music is starting its own record label. Drexel University’s MAD Dragon Records expects to put out its first CD – a compilation of eight or nine bands – next year. The student-run label will be an integral part of Drexel’s fledgling music industry program, which in only three years has grown from eight students to more than 150. The Shortlist Organization announced today the complete “Long List” of eighty-six nominations for the 2003 Shortlist Music Prize, as selected by a panel of “Listmakers” including Flea, Erykah Badu, Perry Farrell, Chris Martin (Coldplay), and the directors Spike Jonze and Cameron Crowe. matchbox twenty Sets Fall Tour of North America


Melisma/Atlantic rock group matchbox twenty is returning to the North American concert circuit this fall for a major cross-continental tour. Slated to open on September 24th in Tallahassee, Florida, the itinerary will keep the band on the road through the end of the year.
