Jewel has canceled her North American tour due to the death of her bass player, her record company announced Thursday. Terome “T-Bone” Hannon died Sept. 4 after suffering a stroke. The Detroit native, who was 39, had played with Jewel for three years. “T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him,” Jewel said in a statement released by Atlantic Records. “We are all just in shock and hurt.” The tour had been set to begin on Sept. 19 in North Charleston, S.C. Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. have nothing to worry about, but a university known more for churning out engineers than hit music is starting its own record label. Drexel University’s MAD Dragon Records expects to put out its first CD – a compilation of eight or nine bands – next year. The student-run label will be an integral part of Drexel’s fledgling music industry program, which in only three years has grown from eight students to more than 150. Australian rock trio Silverchair has pushed back the North American release date of its Atlantic Records debut “Diorama” to Aug. 27. The album was originally slated to be released July 9, but singer/guitarist Daniel Johns’ battle with reactive arthritis – which is preventing him from participating in promotional activities – forced the label to make the move.
